Today i removed the rear lights, chrome trim along the back and sides, and then i proceeded to remove the fuel tank.

Was pretty nervous about this, because bmw used a sponge type gasket between the tank and the body, and this was a big mistake. It retained moisture, resulting in rust along the boot floorpan.

So, needless to say that i was very very happy when i removed the tank and found NO rust.

Luckily, most rusty areas can be easily fixed in the 2002. Unlike the E9!
I am currently still stripping my car, it takes a lot of time, but then I know every small rust spot on this car and I know it is done perfectly.
