I like what has been mentioned in this thread about something being desirable vs collectable. Definitely something to take note of. I may be biased, but it is most definitely desirable.
I guess there are so many ways to look at it, numbers only (in relation to other vehicles), rarity, condition, and so on. As mentioned, compared to a F80, yes this is in the same ballpark, but swing it to the other end of the scale. People with clean E30s who "know what they've got" are charging hundreds of thousands of Rands. I'm willing to bet this (or any modern car) is X times a better car than an E30.
There's other angles of looking at what you can get new (or newer) for R500k-R800k, that is an eye-opener for those who haven't done so recently. New 1-Series starts at R705k, new 3-Series is R905k, Hell, 3 months ago, I priced a new G80 and it was R2.06m on BMW's website, now it's R115000 more expensive.
Ultimately, Humans are silly creatures, and we don't always do things rationally (whether it be pricing something for sale, or buying something for sale). We justify things every which way, and hope the stars align as well so that it all works out in the end.
Back on topic though, this does look like a great example. It may or may not get R800k, but it will sure as nuts be a pretty penny.
