Update time...
Took a trip down the South Coast for the weekend where a wild
@KPM_330 appeared. Luckily he was face down, in defense mode, hiding from the TLGPs as usual :fencelook:
Was pleasantly surprised with the consumption.
Arrived at my destination about 180km later with plenty range still avail
And back when I was in my hometown. Man, the car was dusty, in and out.
The protest action on the N3 resulted in a delay, on top of a delay, of my parts from ABM. Deago's colleagues initially sent
@Riaad 's and my parts to Mafikeng :roflol: Big ups to
@deago.parts@abmbmw for his time and effort to assist me with multiple different quotes and for great comms. Never had to follow up for anything and he always kept me in the loop. Dealerships need more people like him.
So my parts arrived late on Tuesday night and the car was serviced yesterday. Oil, oil filter, air filter and the fuel filter was changed out. I also got the drivers door lockset/actuator replaced.
Here's some pics of the process...
New part:
Pry tool used to remove the plastic cover by the door handle:
Those are two fines in the storage compartment :hammerhead: Need to put my number plates back on after receiving multiple fines, from the same officer, in my area. He's made it his life mission to lookout for me now, as he remembered fining me in the E92 for the same thing :biglol:
Wooden trim popped off then there were some torx screws to remove. Gotta be careful around the ambient lighting LED (?) strips. There will be 2 strips. 1 under the the wooden trim, which illuminates the door handles, and one by the storage compartment.
The entire panel then pops off. Can't remember if there were more screws on the side, and beneath, the door but its fairly simple. All the cabling will now be exposed (speakers, ambient lighting, power mirrors, windows etc). Remove each cable in order to get the panel off completely.
You now have access to the lockset (white arrow) that will need changing. You have access to this from the inner/centre portion of the door (red arrow).
There is a screw holding the actuator in place and a cable plugged in for the electronics. The locking pin, and key position, needs to be aligned correctly in order for the key (when using to turn the key manually) to actually work. The 'pin' inside needs to 'catch' the swing that, both, locks/unlocks the door.
After that, its just the process reversed in order to get everything closed up and neat again.
The door panels are much heavier than I expected and some crazy weight reduction can be achieved by removing all :roflol:
Now that I know how easy it is to remove this, I will probably attempt a proper sound upgrade in the near future :hammerhead:
Other than that, the car desperately needs new tyres. I thought that the rears were bad until I saw threads showing on the front tyres... In the process of sourcing OEM M5 wheels from a forum member however I may have to just bite the bullet and get tyres for now, until he is ready to sell.
