My E39

Hi folks,

I have been hinting at it for days, She's here.

Now for a bit of history. 2000 E39 M5.

Coisman said her history was shakey, and that I am the 8th owner of the car, but is not a writeoff/rebuild.

The car belonged to a forum member WerriesM5, Werner baught the car about a year and a bit ago, and started fixing the car up.

Did a complete rebuild of the front suspension, sorted out many aspects that was not 100%.

He also did a respray on the car, I believe if I have this right the car was stock lemans blue, but he mixed into the paint an Avus blue as well, so the car has this really deep pearl effect, which is just fantastic.

The car is not perfect, and the paint needs a lot of work, there is probably another 3 days of rubbing left, if not more, then a polish, and a wax.

There are also many swirl marks and things that needs to be sorted out.

Mechanically, the car is in good shape, the engine has no tell tail bumps or noises, but the car does need a clutch, a set of front discs and pads, 4 tires, and a service out of principle. I will also have the braking system professionally flushed next week.

These are all very expensive items, but I knew about that up front, Werner was a gentleman and priced the car accordingly, and I have about 30k to spend to get the car into perfect mechanical shape.

The car is stock (which is why I was interested) apart from the cats removed, we suspect that it may be chipped, but we are not sure. This thing is FSCKING strong..

I am not willing to disclose the price of the car, although I will say that I have gotten a hell of a deal, this much I know.

So here she is, note again that there is a lot of paint correction still to be done over time, but if I did not put up pics now, I will be shot and stabbed alive,....

The lady with the huge smile on her face, well thats my mom taking the car to the shop, I wonder what that grin is about....

I have lots to do on the car, but its all cosmetic, I can do it over time. This car will receive no mods, I will keep her stock, MAYBE an exhaust and a tune, but this is a piece of automotive history, and she needs to be treated as such..

Now the sad part, I need to sell my E65 (theoritically have already for another car for the wifey as I hate that Golf). I will purchase a E60 545 or 550 in a year or so's time

Alas, I also traded in my beloved E34 on the E39.

My first dream car was the e46 330i Individual which I got but now that I have it the M5 is just :excited:

Big congratz on the car dude, can't imagine how the drive must be in it but it looks solid so all the best on touching it up  Glad you will be keeping it as stock as possible.

Nice. Where's all the wheelwell splashguards gone?

WerriesM5 will have to change his namoe to Werries530d, although that is a very suspect name :)

Congratulations.

or Werries540 or Werries 340 Or WerriesSuperBike...

Make no mistake, the boy still has a lot of toys

P1000, nope, they were removed during the spray, and are somewhat damaged from age, I am either going to patch them or replace them, but I have them in my garage.

Same thing with the bootlid lip spoiler, I have it, just need to refit it, I also have the number plate holder in color.

Calypso, I was thinking about asking the pro's such as yourself to do it, but I need to get brakes and tries sorted first thing, dont want to do too much now until the 7 is sold, golf is sold, and wifey has new car. Will I damage the paint if I do not have a protective wax sealer on it ?

Werries gave me a burnishing compound with that he has done about half of the car with, I was thinking of just getting started with it myself and try my hand, but if it can wait a bit without paint damage, I would rather pay a pro to take the car for a few days and do it right.

Rather just put some Autoglym SRP or Megs Cleaner wax on it for now. It should improve the paint a great deal and hold you over till you can get a pro to work on it. Just get someone to correct it for you and then you can maintain it from there. The cost/time of equipment and materials is not worth your while unless you have lots of cars or intend to clean as a business, or are full of shit.
Maintenance is easy though, just the corrections stage is where you can make or break a car.

Nice car bud. Good luck with it. Call my mate Loris for tyres (011 454 0606). Mention my name (Anthony). His prices are generally very competitive.

Tankies guys....

She is safely sleeping in the basement at the office :)

Appreaciate all the well wishes, really do.

Ajm, good tip there bud. Im going to use it for sure.

Questions for the E39 M owners.

Discs - Agents only right
Pads - can you get aftermarket

Clutch - Clutch is about 6k (although the one in my car is still far from finished based on feel, a gentleman can nurse 10,000 more out of her) but what have you done regarding flywheel replacement, should I just shut up and pay BMW for a new DMF, or are there alternatives.

The CD shuttle in the car is missing, I am contemplating either a replacement (if anyone has one for a fair price) or I think I am just going to get that Dension gateway and an I-Pod, call it a day (as you loose your cd shuttle then anyway). Idea's

As for sound, man I am glad I did not sell that AudioControl LCR6i...... but thats long term, I want to keep the original factory look, so no aftermarket for me :)

Also, I need to beg a copy of a Nav CD (and not DVD) from somebody, please :pimp:
