They are not installed yet. I need to create new wiring if I want to do this properly. I tried my best to get my hands on BMW part# 61120140220 which is the conversion wiring harness, which would make this the easiest job in the world, but as it stands, I am going to have to figure this out myself. BMW doesn't sell it anymore. There is a guy in the US that has a set lying in his garage but not getting response from him at the moment.
So the ad for this was from 2015 and I still messaged him asking if he still has the item. He eventually found the item in a box in his garage and sent this photo:

img_0500_8065798783.jpeg

That made me really happy :smilebounce:

I struck a deal with him, it was mailed to a NY Aramex Global Shopper address and is currently on it's way to JHB.

What this means, I now literally have a guide from BMW to follow on how to make these lights work exactly the same way they work on facelift cars and the coding will be the same. I just have a little bit of wiring changes to make to the LCM and some fun getting the cable from the LCM to the back in the car.

I have been wanting to do this for a while now, having done it already for my wife's 330. It was time to install the shocks that have been lying in the garage for faaaaaar too long now.

On my way home before getting started:
img_20190919_175703_9465005047.jpg

Removing all the panels in the boot to get ready for the rear shocks install, and before going to get the work done:
img_20190920_080906_7294473727.jpg

This is where I noticed it looks like this car also never had shocks replaced in the rear, even though the front shocks have been replaced with gabriels in the past:
img_20190920_080913_8954235880.jpg

A quick pick of a rear shock with dust boot over it:
img_20190920_081002_1935922885.jpg

Pulling down the dustboot showed the bump stop in 2 pieces:
img_20190920_081009_4756307966.jpg

Left side bump stop was fine:
img_20190920_081210_4253839714.jpg

Made sure the guys checked to disconnect the level sensors on the right side (front and back, this is front pic) before completely removing the shocks:
img_20190920_081900_6685224949.jpg

Old front shock:
img_20190920_081904_5016364967.jpg

This wasn't replaced....but it shows there are more work to be done (hopefully soon....)
img_20190920_082032_1125614368.jpg

Random pic of the car in the air:
img_20190920_090638_181506156.jpg

Aaaaand a new shock:
img_20190920_094023_7640829542.jpg

So the work that was done is exactly the same as in this thread.

- New shocks front+back
- New spring pads top/bottom front+back
- New dust boots front (back was included with shocks)
- New shockmounts front+back
- New bumpstops front (back was included with shocks)
- Added re-enforcement plates front+back

Going forward, I need to redo all the bushings in the rear, at least the control arm bushings and balljoints. Front needs new control arms, the bushings are gone.

They broke my one front endlink in the process and put a temp one in, so both will be replaced soon.

As for the difference in the ride, just woah again. I knew what to expect after driving my wife's 330, but woah I absolutely LOVE the improvement, and I know it will get even better after doing the next round of work.

Hope you enjoyed reading the update :smilebounce::smilebounce::smilebounce:

This last update I spent 4 weeks on, more than I thought was needed, but the outcome is good.

Started by removing the rear seat...and it was filthy...
img_20190928_103158_8186392180.jpg

I can't help myself, so cleaned up.
img_20190928_104316_589303506.jpg

Next up was to remove the side trim to reveal the cable paths from the front to the back of the car:
img_20190928_105619_9243521422.jpg

img_20190928_105655_574381491.jpg

Needed to do the same in the boot:
img_20190928_105714_4506707869.jpg

And also below the steering wheel:
img_20190928_110318_2093992188.jpg

Side panel next to the accelerator pedal:
img_20190928_110848_2564461339.jpg

Which allows for another opportunity, I can never get to clean next to the pedal, so with this panel removed:
img_20190928_111127_4572877129.jpg

LCM removed:
img_20190928_110854_1090062662.jpg

More dirt that is rarely properly cleaned:
img_20190928_134436_8824658435.jpg

So cleaned up:
img_20190928_135012_3287272380.jpg

Removing a panel I didn't want to in the boot. This one is annoying, because there are these caps over the screws, which I managed to damage all of them. Will need new ones.
img_20190928_112350_522185972.jpg

Then at this point I pulled through the wiring, I noticed I didn't take photos of it all, but I did after putting the things back together.
img_20190928_141419_3210314561.jpg

img_20190928_142315_8027091089.jpg

Next up, I spliced the wiring into the connecters at the LCM:
img_20190928_142321_1505617328.jpg

Not all of my work is out of experience, this was learning and I made some mistakes, but these pins all ended up working:
img_20190929_101435_8870346925.jpg

img_20190929_100952_114809.jpg

This, is the state of the lights I am working with.
img_20190929_105516_5932387334.jpg

img_20190929_105520_9575775626.jpg

img_20190929_105525_4470011247.jpg

img_20190929_105534_8720243411.jpg

This is my answer to it.
Solder:
img_20190929_112012_6564012431.jpg

Heatshrink tube. Using the wife's hairblower to make it shrink.
img_20190929_112446_353236754.jpg

Finally this is how I connect it, making the lights removable.
img_20190929_113426_7523370389.jpg

Next up, was probably one of the harder things to figure out, how to pull wiring through into the boot, through the rubber piping. It is really annoying when the BMW cabling have something sticky, making nothing go through here, but I managed eventually.
img_20190929_124313_2059834995.jpg

img_20191005_174242_5493533081.jpg

Pre-facelift vs facelift boot lights on the left side for SA. So pre-facelift have the one red light blanked, which is why you can't have the rear foglight on both sides. Facelift can have it on both sides.
img_20191002_184240_4069728721.jpg

Anyways, so here is where things went sideways. Before putting everything back together, I test the lights, and the facelift lights do not work at all. Like nothing. I then put back on the pre-facelift lights, and even with the wiring changes, everything work, although slightly odd. The brakes were pressed here to ensure I have brake lights, but unfortunately it looked like I am driving with both rear fog lights on :rage: Well the car looked like this for 2 weeks while I was working on a solution to the facelift lights not working.
img_20191002_185840_3443476951.jpg

Turns out, this wiring harness I got, is many ways wrong. The left and right side of the wiring hardness was the wrong way around. The problem is, this cable was meant for LHD cars in the USA, and our RHD cars the lengths do not make sense. So I had to do some cutting, soldering and wrapping heatshrink tubes around, to get the left and right side swapped. Easier than doing than reversing the pins on both sides.

Anyways, this is the boot without trim:
img_20191012_093043_2164435095.jpg

Some ugly cabling:
img_20191012_093055_8182829625.jpg

img_20191012_093107_5695818492.jpg

Then in the end, I had to figure out the coding. This is not at 90% complete.

The rear lights, light up like the factory had the facelift cars, with the standing lights all on the bottom on dim, and the brake lights on the top and middle.

What is not done coding is:
1. The fog light is on the left side bottom two. Need to double check factory config here.
2. Walk me home lights, currently looks odd, shows two bright lights on the boot at the rear.

The end result:

img_20191012_090414_8102195536.jpg

img_20191015_092903_111390458.jpg

This now finally mark the end of the facelift conversion of this car.

Hope you enjoyed reading my latest post :praise:

I hinted in @KPM_330 's coilover vs shock thread that I did further suspension updates.

The why: After doing the shocks, same as on the other 330 the wife have, I noticed that on my car the improvement wasn't nearly as good as on hers. There is also another issue...not solved by this but anyway.

After doing these next parts, I can say that the shocks probably didn't get to work all the time, but now that everything is stiffened up...the result is AMAZING. Car feels like a feather on the road yet it is rock solid with grip around corners. Did a bit over 120km/h on De Waal Rd (not sure what the new name is) and the car just fly around the corners. Obviously when no traffic.

So the work done:

* wheel hub ball-joint -> 33306852895 oem
* wheel hub bushing -> 33326771828 oem
* rear trailing arm bushing -> powerflex purple
* upper control arm bushing -> powerflex purple
* lower control arm bushing -> powerflex purple
* Subframe - front left -> powerflex purple
* Subframe - front right -> powerflex purple
* Subframe - rear -> powerflex purple
* Differential - front -> powerflex purple
* Differential - rear -> was done to powerflex purple in 2017
* Front control arms -> lemforder
* Front control arms bushings -> powerflex purple
* Front endlinks -> oem
* Front swaybar bushings -> powerflex purple
* Rear swaybar bushings -> powerflex purple

That said, noticed my front left brakeline is damaged, so car is going back again on the 12th after part arrived.

I was very lucky and Garage808 supplied me with photos, mostly of the rear as I was interested to see what the body looks like. Not that you can see much as it will need a proper clean and some zoomed in photos if you want to know if there are those small cracks starting, but from what I can see there is no disaster at all.

On to the photos.

It really sticks to the road where it didn't previously. I am still surprised at jsut how big difference the bushings made coupled with the shocks even though I left it on stock springs. Still waiting for the suspension to set.

Thank you :)

So front left breakline replaced. So all good with that, buuuuut some bad news.

Measured the breakdiscs and found they all 4 warped.
0.04 on front left, right and rear left.
0.09 on rear right.

Looks like they were skimmed by previous owner/s and also used speedline pads whatever that is. So will have to fix this mess too.

Handles like a dream around the corners and feels so light and easy to control. Was definitely worth doing on a car one keeps.
