So.....having back problems for the past few weeks, I can now continue with the 1'er. The wife has been driving Monica while her car was in pieces, and that needs to stop, there is already an extra dent on the rear quarter panel and the bumper has plenty of battle scars.

On with the mods.

I stripped the lights completely. The people on the net that said 1 series lights were the worst to take apart were not kidding. What a ballache.

All the seperate parts where then sanded, primered and prepped for paint.

The majority of the parts were painted high gloss black, with the exception of the outside bezel being painted gloss white, going for something different. The indicator will also be tinted very dark.

Thanks gents, much appreciated.

Since everything was off the car no use leaving the grills all bland and blemished.

Grills condition before.

Here is a little trick for you guys, spray them with oven cleaner and let them soak, it will remove all dirt and paint and make it look almost as good as new.

All the grills were cleaned and removed of any paint.

The bumper grills and kidney grills were painted canyon sating texture black, and the grill surrounds were painted high gloss epoxy black for some contrast.

Then onto the bumper, It was not really in too bad a state, but seeing as everything else was going to look new I had to touch up some spots on the bumper. I just wanted to fix the damaged part and blend in the paint and clearcoat, but thinking back it would have been much easier just to repaint the whole bumper.

You guys need to Excuse me as I am in no way a panel beater and all my work gets done out of Aerosol cans with a home made spray booth out of drop sheets:rollsmile:

Damage to bumper, I will just tell myself that the marks were there when we purchased the car lol

Then the task of sanding and filling and imperfections and scratches, over and over and over.

Then a light matt black mist coat was done and sanded to check for any waves etc
img_5537_6905584381.jpg

Color test was done on another piece of ABS plastic to see for color match (Primer, base coat and clear coat)
img_5565_3406327385.jpg

Then the parts were painted separately, only in base coat. Lets see if you can spot where the old color and new color was blended together.

Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy. Takes about 7 days to cure, but with the correct prep work it comes out smooth as glass and has high gloss and durability.

For a guy that's doing everything by can, your doing a flippen good job hey. Did you even blend the white on the bumper with can spray?

Shot thanks appreciate it. Does that mean I need to prime and leave it primed off the car for a week before I can sand and paint?
Do you use gloss black can epoxy as well on the parts?
I don't have my compressor any longer so I can't paint 2k anymore, and my kidneys is starting to show some serious stone chips.

All in Aerosol paint.

The Epoxy does not need primer at all, paint it, let it cure and then if needed you polish it.
