Your best protection is to unplug the DSL line. Nothing can stop lightning from taking it out.
Buy an ellied electrical surge plug that Comes with a 20k cover. follow the instructions and if anything blows while on that plug, if you registered it with them, they will sort it out. Grand idea with adsl and TV. Cover is for 1 year. Plug around R400
Surge protection is for electrical surges. Good idea to use them on TV and Audio stuff, or nowadays, almost everything electrical...
However, the protection specifically excludes phone lines, as that would constitute lightning damage, not electrical. In fact, if you have DSL equipment listed under one of the options (on the same plug) and your TV gets hits by an
electrical surge, you give them grounds to refute the entire claim as they can claim it is
lightning damage/surge - read the fine print on Ellies products with regards to phone lines and aerials. They are sneaky on not telling you this detail. The way around this is not to list anything thats connected to a phone line. The TV aerial is a grey area - they can use that against you.
