VW G7 GTi

Hey gents

*PS, if you don't want to read my crap, scroll down for pics

So after much research and consideration I took the plunge and purchased a new Golf 7 Gti.

I won't go into much of a review as there are plenty out there, so its some what of an over kill. Also I'll give us BMW guys some insights into this VW vehicle not like some of its owners that will only tell you how fast it is and what car it can beat lol.

Anyway these are my comments on it and I've included some of the features and options.

Of the bat, I can say it's clearly the most sorted hot hatch out there, very well balanced and a gem to live with everyday and trash when called for

- Runs Vw's MQB platform, meaning its a totally newly designed vehicle, the G6 was based on the G5. The G7 is new and averages around 100kgs lighter in weight saving throughout the range.

- Advanced EA888 series engine, with new cylinder head. Fuel consumption drops by 18% and max torque is achieved from just 1500rpm.

- Has progressive steering, an weights up nicely at higher speeds. I'm very impressed with the feel and response of this rack. VW really did a great job here.

- Has the XDS plus diff function, so you get into a bend and this thing tucks in nicely and the more you accelerate the more it grips and pulls the front into the corner.

- ESC sport mode now available, kinda like an M-Dynamic mode. Allowing you some fun before it intervenes.

- DSG box is great and having driven many VAG vehicles equipped with these boxes in the past I kind say they have upped their game here, but I still won't hold a gear in manual mode like the M-DCT.

- Like most performance cars these days, it has a sound generator in the cabin. But i did hear it from outside and to me it louder outside than in. But the DSG fart/pop/burble what you want to call it is way more noticeable now. No down pipe needed here for farts.

- Feels closer to 200kw than 162kw. Then again most of them are making 160-170wkw at different dynos around the country. Apparently they perform like a modded st.1 Golf 6 Gti. :fencelook:

- Lastly the build quality is just remarkable, very little wind and road noise. Interior is well laid out and ergonomics are top class. Materials quality are more Audi like and attention to detail is great. Every storage compartment has a rubber insert and the door cards have been lined with carpet material.

Some Features and Options:
- Touch screen (USB, SD, Aux, Bluetooth control of all vehicle settings)
- 3D color trip computer with all info
- Bi-Xenons, dynamic bending lights and day time running lights
- All lights inside and out are now white LEDs
- Red stitching, carbon fibre with aluminium trimmings and red LED strip lighting.
- Panoramic sunroof
- High beam assist
- Media-In Interface
- Park Pilot (Advanced PDC that gives you a 360 degree view incl. curb view so no scuffing of rims here)
- Park Assist (Vehicle parks itself, parallel & bay parks. Will even take you out of the parking if someone has parked to close to you.
- Start-Stop technology

Well thought I'd shard my experiences so far, as the Gti forum in SA wasn't much of a help as they will only tell you how fast the car is and what supercar it will beat. :roflol:

I had to seek info from the UK mk7 forum to help me decide on this car, not being a BMW made the choice very difficult.

Well I also didn't want the 18s but couldn't take the 19s with the sunroof. They actually look decent in the flesh.

Lovely car man! The interior is :inlove:

FYI:Keep an eye out for front suspension noise and squeaking brakes. Morne form VW told me they already had a few G7 GTi's in for this issues.

Many happy miles
