Video New Bmw 328i acceleration

I am and have always been a huge fan of the BMW 6-cyl, but this twin-turbo 4-cyl is truly impressive! It is going to be an adjustment to get used to the less appealing soundtrack, but performance is by no means lost. And as pointed out, these demo 328i's are currently running in their 160kw detuned state since they are still pre run-in, so safe to say they are certainly impressive. Something to also consider - 180kw from a 2.0l 4-cyl versus say 225 - 250kw from the 3.0l 6-cyl.

the next 3l turbo will probably have a bit more of a kick to it

Superb time! Just imagine what it would be after running in and after the engine has loosened up a bit more!?!

i saw the 328i on RPM last night. old spike ballantine didnt give it a great review.

Spike is a chop. He overstresses his words and is trying to be the South African version of a Top Gear presenter, which he fails at. I often find him repeating himself for many different cars.

I much prefer listening to Deon

when i made the video it only had 160kw (pre-run in procedure) imagine 180kw.. will make big difference in acceleration times. Must say you dont feel the speed at all, almost like there was no adrenaline, so effortless, in my opinion the best car i've ever had the privileged to drive was a E46 M3 cab.. that sound and wind in your ears.. mind blowing. Youtube the F30 Bmw 335i acceleration, its scary fast..!!

The way these gearboxes are able to make use of the power and the effortless of it makes it easy for the car to pick up speed without you actually realising until you check the speedometer again - plus the super-soft and refined ride (even with RFT's) also lulls you into not sensing the higher speeds as much. I did notice the steering feeling a bit too light and over-assisted as mentioned already, but a case of it feels different to the E90 I reckon how the E90 felt different from the E46, and so on.

Very impressive acceleration. I'm sure it'll be great dynamically, and it will be loved by the chip-erati and those who frequent the drag strips. But it has lost one of the fundamental qualities of a good BMW for me - the aural brilliance. It has such a contrived 4-cylinder snarl that I don't think I could bring myself to spend money on one.

Still, if it satisfies the emissions Nazis...

I do get the whole idea of small turbo engines. Its the wave of change. But will always choose a I6 sound track over a 4pot turbo.

But and a big but what I have a problem with on the f30 is the finishing and attention to detail. Under the hood there are some wires showing some harnesses looks like they were wrapped with insulation tape by the sound shop down the road. Some of the materials used inside felt hard and cheep

My friend and I had a look at a e90 and it had better finishing than the f30. Then also had a look at my e46 which was better than the e90.

We then took a drive to the nearest Merc dealer and saw that the current C-class was better aswell. Having said that, the older C-class was better than the new one aswell.

Yes we are scoring when it comes to the tech being pumped into the engines and gearboxes. And at the same time we are loosing on build quality the materials used and the workmanship involved. Doesn't matter what brand I think they are all guilty of this.

Just my opinion don't shoot.:fencelook:

Henry , I get your point , okay I don't , look in the E46 and you see the computer box out there looking at you . I think the finishes are way better

Just my opinion  Don't shoot me now

Hard to criticize a 12 year old design against modern setups :)

At the launch on Sat, I drove the 328i, 320d and the 335i at Northcliff Auto....

The 328i is quick but it just doesnt feel fast. Also, the lack of sound from the engine does not inspire me to rev the car.

The 320d impressed me and once you inside the car, I could hardly tell its a diesel.

This new 3 Series impressed me everywhere except the light steering wheel. It just doesnt feel as sharp as what I'm used to in BMW.

For a car to be a driver's car you need a soundtrack to match. It's not about speed and straightline performance. That gets very tiring unless you want to brag at the traffic lights. 6 Cylinder FTW

The 328i is really only a 2.0 litre!? No wonder my 135i murdered it. Why call it a 328i then? So what is the 335i then?

328i = 2.0l twin turbo. 335i = 3.0l twin turbo. 135i = 3.0l twin turbo.

So ya as basic math would show you 3 > 2.

so why are you suprised your 135 is faster than a 328i?

Old 328i. e46 and e36 = 2.8l straight six

A little bit condescending are we?

Maybe the credit goes to the gearbox of these new cars rather than the engine? There seems to be zero lag between shifts. 320d i hammered was very quick with the shifts too.

Love the sound...doesn't sound like any of the other 2.0l turbo cars out there. Still won't give a hard-on like the straight six does, but dig the sound

Awesome car but wouldve prefered it being called a 320i, Imagine the look on the hot hatch owners when a 320 comes past :roflol:

But this is the thing, I love the soundtrack of my 330i, but the engine and exhaust note of the 4-cyl twin-turbo was not off-putting for me in any way - and it goes about its business without any drama, same with the 320d.

I do think that the automatic gearboxes throw a complication into the mix, which is why I would love to take a 328i with a manual gearbox for a proper drive at some point! Back to the sound, may not sound as glorious as the 6-cyl, but one of the better sounding 4-cyl turbos on the market today I think!

Old 328i. e46 and e36 = 2.8l straight six

Remember, the new range of 3 series engines, is TwinPower, NOT twin turbo. Single turbo, twinscroll.
The x35 N55 is also single turbo, and the older x35 N54 is twin turbo!

O ya thanks Riaan. Remembered now its Twin Power turbo and not twin turbo power. N54 were twin turbo
