11.5km/l in traffic isn't bad. I get around the same. Open road I get 17km/l+

Received a box of goodies delivered by Goldwagen Delarey. Gonna be a busy weekend!

If you guys ever need any parts and good service, give goldwagen delarey a call.

I bought MAF cleaner so that will also be properly cleaned

Ok so was up early and started stripping. Did not take much fotos.

Found one of the bolts loose on the pipe going from the egr to the engine block so could have leaked there.

The issue was the egr thermostat that failed, was able to blow right through it. The main thermostat looked brand new but i replaced everything and will keep old one as spare.

Added new antifreeze as well, bled the system. Temps are going up alot quicker. Took a test drive and engine is much quieter and seems more nippier.

The car already had the new vortex breather as well but i replaced with the new. Cleaned out the maf with thr liqui molly spray and fitted new airfiler, old one was dirty as hell....

All in all a job well done and pretty straight forward.

Covered the turbo with a piece of plastic and rubber band so that all that water didnt run into the turbo. While i was in there i checked the turbo again and there is absolutely no side to side or in amd out play and the wheel spins freely, not stiff at all so still good for now until i get money for a new core.

Tomorrow ill do the brake pads

Replaced the brake pads and sensor this afternoon, pads still haf life on them but sensor decided it was time to change and driving around with a red handbrake light sucked.

Fitted the brakes and reset the service light and all good. Will see how they treat me cause ive only read good things on the surebrake pads on here and on vw forum. Wikus the owner at gw delarey also swears by them and havent had any returns or complaints

Funny, @SubLoaded apparently only got 15 000km out of his Surebrake pads. Maybe it was a bad batch. (Link to post - https://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=83750&page=5)

Let us know how they are
Will do, it all comes down to driving style but im happy if i get 15k out of a set, thats like 1 set a year and half for me. Not too fased as long as the brakes stop lol. I mainly drove to work and back in stop en go traffic and weekends use the wifes car. Textar pads at bmw after 20% discount came in around R1700 which is crazy...but textar is a proper pad.

Oh well will see how they are, do proper bed in process and report back in a couple weeks.

I need to do disks on my 320d. What size are your rotors? I assume the 1 series and 3 series use the same calipers and pads?

There’s a 300mm and 312mm version.
So you’ll need to messure and see what size you have

Cool thanks bud.

Is the difference between the regular and Msport models?

I miss having the massive brakes that were on my 330d, 330mm front and 360mm rears. Could stop on a dime. But the 320d's brakes are also very good

Drove to work this morning and the pads feel good, pretty much feels the same as what i took out.

Car definitely has more power, torque is better and revs pick up quick when accelerating. Engine is much quieter and the car over all just drives 100 times better than before.

Monitored the temps all the way to work and got up to 87deg fairly quick and stayed between 87/88 degrees so all is good.

I disconnected my EGR vacuum yesterday and blocked the pipes off and no error codes have popped up yet. I am however getting that weird noise when the actuator for the EGR comes on so will unplug it and see if i get an error, if i dont then ill be sourcing a EGR blank off kit later.

Car pulls like a train again! So happy!

Will be replacing diesel filter and washing the gearbox soon as i bought a new 2ton trolley jack this weekend, autozone had a great special.

Cheers guys!

Quick Update regarding the brake pads, After a week of driving they seem really decent. Car stops great, no noises when applying the brakes and minimal dust so far. Quite happy with them, no complaints yet.

Other than that, the car has been running great after the thermostat changes.

Got my hands on some metalic charcoal rustoleum plastidip and this was the results.

Split the chrome from the grills after i removed them and plastidipped the chrome.

Did the wheels and think it transformed the look of the car completely. Managed to do all of this using one can of plastidip amd there is still some left. This after i applied thick coats.

What do you guys think?
