From what i read up, if there is no shaft play then you can just replace the compressor wheel. Will have a chat to gabby this week and see what he says. Should be cheaper than a replacement turbo.

Yeah will get a billet depending on price. Hopefully i can get the turbo sorted month end with either a replacment or refurbing this one, all depends on pricing. But dont see why i need to replace this turbo if shaft play is non existent, so will just get wheel replaced.

If you gonna fix the compressor wheel save urself the hassle and put in a new seal kit and have the turbo balanced while it’s out.

Yes u gonna spend a little more, but you wouldn’t wanna have to remove the turbo again and repair it again.

That compressor wheel is stuffed, and is probebly unbalanced and will chow your bearings over time. It usually goes south pretty quickly so rather replace the compressor wheel and check your exhaust wheel while your turbo is out.

Yeah will get pricing tomorrow from a couple of places. Removing the turbo seems like a straight forward and not to complicated job. Will check on exchange units aswell.

So it seems after cleaning the boost pipe consumption is way better and car is definitely more torquey and nippy!

Isn’t that consumption high for a diesel car ?

12km/L in traffic? I think its okay...Was previously sitting at 9.5L/100km before i checked the pipe which was last week.

When i took this photo, it was still going into the 7.9ish and coming down more.

I used to get 5.5/6km/100L doing highway driving.

Ok so Autozone has Original Mitsubishi Cores for R2800, Mr Turbo wants R3800 for complete rebuild and new compressor wheel. Havent heard from Gaby and also havent had feedback from the other 4 or 5 places i emailed.

I would prefer an exchange unit as its the quickest down time, when the day comes that i do the turbo, i cant be down for 2 or 3 days, want to remove the turbo and fit the other turbo the same day.

Turbo on the car : Mitsubishi TF035V which is the equivalent of TD04.

Im sure the core from autozone should be a balanced core? can one just DIY replace the old core with the new one?

Autozone sounds dodgy? Only place I'd take it is Gaby from Fastec, then you know your turbo will work. Turbo's need to be very well balanced

Autozone is Original and they order it, just the core not the whole turbo.

Turbo Exchange has a special on currently for R6800 for the garrett GT17 which is the equivalent used. From what i understand, they used to be GT17 and then BMW started using Misubishi from 2006 onwards or something in that order.

Will shop around, not in too much of a hurry. Turbo isnt making any noises and theres no shaft play so i doubt it will just go boom lol. Well impressed for a turbo that is 170k old and has no play on the shaft.

Your turbo should be the Garrett GT1749V

You can pick up a brand new one from Turbo Direct for around R13k, but that will be quite a bit more than just rebuilding the existing turbo.

can get a garrett GT1749v or GT17V from turbo exhange brand new for R6800 currently on special.

My turbo is the Mitshibishi according to the part number on the turbo. Not sure if its a direct swop and if i can just buy a garrett and install or are the actuator plugs maybe different or will the car require tuning?
