My new to me daily, replacement for the 228i

My vote goes to Bootmod3. I’m biased though.

I like that I can just load maps from my phone, and with their multi maps you can change maps on the steering wheel. (Not sure if available for M235i or not.)

Bootmod3 license purchased.
Apparently something was dodgy with my Paypal payment, even though it processed fine, and I need to contact them before they'll send the license to me. Now I just wait until 9am EDT😞

Other than that, the exhaust tips on the car are in a dreadful state of affairs...so I had to do something in the meantime.

It's not perfect. They stick out too far and I cannot adjust them inwards any further. They also need a good polish, but I cannot find my metal polish. Will go digging this weekend.

That is all.

Finally, got the activation code and have applied the ACN91 Stage 2 tune.
I'll update how I find it over the weekend.

Didn't get to play much on the weekend, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the car was already tuned despite the salesman claiming otherwise.
However, acceleration on full throttle is smoother, so I'm still playing around with maps to see which feels best.

Can you not revert back to "stock"?

I imagine you'll quickly notice a difference if it was infact tuned.
The fact that there was a downpipe - I think it is likely there was software on there already.

The chances of someone owning a 35i, installing a downpipe and not loading software is a bit slim and unlikely... Not to mention pops and bangs was active to...

I was told about the pops and bangs tune, and DP. I did specifically asked if the car had a performance tune and was told no.

Anyway, I've switched from the ACN91 tune to the regular 91 tune and car is feeling much stronger. Have to do some logging still, but I'm much happier.

So, going for a drive just now, as I pulled onto the road and accelerated up to speed, I noticed a distinct lack of torque, and the exhaust is quieter than usual.
This a sign of boost leak?
No other symptoms. Car drives smooth, no strange sounds, no engine light
I'll do some logging a bit later to try confirm, but if it is, where are the likely places to check? (Already have metal charge pipe, so really doubt it's that) Down by the intercooler possibly?

So... not a boost leak.
Drove car again this morning, did some logging, and to my amateur eyes, all seems fine.

Update time.
A couple of months ago, I noticed slipping of the clutch in gear. I posted a few question threads, but I've finally decided to just stay OEM, so will be booking the car into Auto Bavaria Midrand.

Going to request that they install the 550i clutch kit (essentially an M240i clutch).
Dual mass flywheel will be changed at the same time.

When I get the old parts back, I've made a deal with local engineering place which specializes in Single mass flywheel conversion kits, and they'll use my old flywheel to create a local kit for the guys why cannot stomach the cost of a dual mass on their M235i.

Question time...
Can a slipping clutch stop slipping?
In anticipation of sending the car in the clutch change, I flashed the ECU back to stock.
Now the clutch doesn't slip. I've been driving around like Miss Daisy trying to prolong the clutch as I could while I built up funds for the change, but the clutch was still slipping while tuned.
I'd flashed the ECU back to stock when the slipping first started to test and it did definitely slip, so not sure why it's not slipping now.
Could this cold spell we're having, stopped the clutch slipping?
Honestly I'm not expecting it to last for ever, but this is a nice reprieve.

The car had more power and torque when it was tuned, hence the clutch would be under more strain and struggling to hold all the power which is why it was slipping.

Now that you flashed it back to stock the clutch can most likely bare with the reduced power for now. You'll see if you tune the car again right now the clutch will start slipping again.

All in all it will need to be changed as it probably is a bit worn. But with the stock ecu file it should give you a bit more mileage than you anticipated.

Hope this helps.

The thing is, when it first started slipping, I flashed back to stock to test and it slipped.
So I put the tune back on figuring I needed to change the clutch so enjoy while I can.
Now, after some time has passed, I flash back to stock again and no more slipping.

It slipped before on stock, but not now...that's what I'm asking about. Can a slipping clutch recover, similar to glazed brake pads, or is more this colder weather?

I'm not expecting it to last, but the fact that it's not slipping now is nice as more time has been bought so to speak.

Hi @viceroy
How is the car treating you so far?
Sorry for no response Y, haven't been on the forum for a while.

Car is great. I haven't replaced the clutch yet. It's still slipping, but I've lowered the boost down to 0.5bar to gain some longevity while I save up the cash for the operation (been a tough year financially)

Other than the clutch, while not doing a lot of km (only done about 4000km in the last year), I'm loving the car, and the drive, despite it being WAY down on power.

So slight update on the car.
Ok, not an update, but clarification on the above comment on the clutch slipping. It's not actually.
I did lower the boost down to about half for a month or 2 to eek out some more longevity, but I recently put the boost back to normal levels (was really frustrating me having no low down torque.) and the clutch is still not slipping, and I have given it a few boots in higher gears.
Still planning on a new clutch, but will take my time now.

And, just like that, the car is sold...
Was a fun journey, but my heart will always pump Audi juice, so I sold the M235i, and got myself a back into an Audi S4.
Congratulations.

Some Audi’s still pull on my heartstrings and I still miss my S4.

Where do Audi fans connect these days. Is the old Forum back up and running Yet?

Congrats…the S4’s are lovely. Echo your sentiments. Still dearly miss my previous S3’s -what machines. And came fully loaded with everything: awesome looks, exhaust tone, quattro for consistent launches, handling, excellent Bang & Olufsen sound, lovely diamond stitched sport seats, engaging digital dashboard.
I drove faster regularly in those S3’s (particularly my black sport back) than even my 140i and e90 stage 2 lci 330d which were more powerful. The S3 would have kept up thought in all conditions, and in the wet, obliterated them.

Audi build quality is so comforting...
Wish you many happy miles.
Is it a B8 or 9?
