Sometimes its a cheap appliance like a kettle, or more expensive like a 43" Plasma, or sometimes its a car, but I am sure ALL of us here has had that misfortune somewhere in our lives.
The best is to just fight through it, and remember, if you need a place to stay cause you didn't pay your house, and the bank re-po'ed it...

it was still under mp,couldve got all of the problems sorted out,with out any expense to your pocket,

now youve taken a loss plus had to pay out more in a month on a newer car.
who says the newer one doesnt give you trouble?

How reliable is this car? What happens if I stick to it and I drive down to Durban and this thing breaks down in the middle of nowhere?

Yeh right - MP won't let you stranded.

I want a reliable car and I think the 320d is it. It is a 2009, econonmical, better performance (stock). The only drawback is that is has 18" tyres, but it looks awesome.
I have to add that the car is also not accident free and that is a drawback for most. But the impact was on the side (like scraping a moving vehicle) with low impact.
BMW Roslyn fixed it, and I cannot see any issues in the direct sunlight.
Rear tyres are new.

Colin, if you say Fountains are the technical gurus, then I will take it there.

LH did not have the ability to check out the AC system. Their customer care shines, but it looks like it is hiding the rotten apple.

Get this, when I took the car for the broken AC and engine, the cars fuel consumption was: 346km on 47.42l tank. Was the car driven hard or did they get stuck in traffic to Silverton and back. I am paying for the 41km that they drove.

Its a 2009 model 320d manual, blue, with 64134km on at 2011/09/22.

Owner hisory don't look good I'm afraid :nono: I will go by year:

2009/03 - 2010/03: BMW Rosslyn Company car
2010/05 - 2010/10: Mr. Geers born 1967
2010/10 - 1011/01: Prisma Motors Wondeboom
2011/01 - 2011/09: Mr. Bierman born 1974

Things I don't like on the history is firsty the 1 year company car. :nonono:
We all know how cars are driven when they don't belong to you. :mmm:
Also the quick change of ownership for Mr. Geers, and Mr. Bierman??
Geers had it for 5 months, and Bierman for 8??? :thinking: Why?????

That doesn't not look nice, that mileage is pretty high, though I would not say problem high, but the number of owners in such a sort time worries me a bit.

Coisman - this information was not disclosed to me by the salesman and LH BMW. All that was disclosed was that some Mrs. had an accident with the car and it was fixed by the BMW Roslyn plant....

I smell a rat after this new info came to light.

Out of common decency, I will return to the salesman early tomorrow and decline the purchase. He wanted to fix two scratch marks on the mag wheels and some stone chips on the windshield.

I will go see the Service Agent and transfer the repairs to Fountains, because he is supposed to call me with repairs to the AC condenser unit.

Some kind of assurance is needed that there is nothing wrong with that motor, after whatever repairs are done.

Looks like I might loose a fight, but will win the war.

well there you have it,lh done you in on the mp,then you want to buy a car from them,where they didnt tell you about the history.i year as a company car,haha,we all know how a company car gets driven

i would not take my car to them if they were the last dealers in pretoria.

remember,i havent had a problem with my ac,but i am very happy with the service i got at fountains.sorted out my car as well as keeping me informed
the lady that i worked through has left fountains and is now working at zambisie-celeste 012-523-3773.
i saw her yesterday and told her about your car giving problems,she says they will sort it out for you.

An expression comes to mind, "rather the evil you know..." - I would say investigate as much as possible before committing to a different car. CPA is on your side which is helpful, but nothing beats looking things over with a critical eye. When I bought my E90 I was totally "unknowledgeable" about these E90's so probably missed a few important things - lacks some nice toys, no Xenons, iDrive, Sportpack etc. Of course before CPA and the salesman for example said that the car had rain sensors which only later on I discovered it didn't, but I didn't buy the car for toys so for me no big deal. Main thing is the car is reliable and a pleasure to drive.

Previous owner history is important to know, rather few (one preferably) private owner(s) than many or company owned! Think rental car treatment and care...

If the engine sounds like a cottage cheese processer, have them replace it.

If the aircon unit is faulty, insist on a replacement aircon unit complete.

Insist that they issue you with a courtesy car at once and then sort the issue out.

You should not be left to suck on the hind tit and loose money on a motorplan car, trust me the dealer does not give 2 shits, as he is being paid by BMW..

Thanks for the advice guys. Here is an update.
Took a look from another angle. :idea:

Listened to the engine noises again and decided to take it to Coisman for a little test drive. This is what happened:

Gave the stick to Coisman and the car was hesitant from the word go. The DSC was switched off completely and we had another go. No issues this time round. Couple of 7000rpm shifts suddenly the car came alive.

The recommended fuel line cleaner was blobbed into the tank and we went to the private test fascility. Did a couple of 0 - 100's with full rpm shifts without issues.

To me the car just feel more "awake" after this excersise. Or is this now my imagination again?
Perhaps it is me driving like miss daisy that resulted in some kind of econo mode?

The engine noise is still present.

I will make a booking tomorrow and hopefully get this sorted once and for all.

Again, find out what they are doing to solve the problem, if they tell you that they changed the ashtray light and that the problem should now be sorted, blast them,

Also, I always recommend that guys in your situation get a courtesy car, even if you dont need it an d you own 92 other cars, a courtesy car puts added pressure on them, as you simply do not return the car until you are happy.

Do not settle for them to take the head off and start fiddling... Insist on a new motor complete.

Guys, we put in a can of "Wynn's feul line cleaner, to make sure any water vapour buildup, or dirty injectors get sorted. :thumb:

I took the car for a wicked-ass drive, or like Meatloaf says, "bat out of hell" drive, and for the first few minutes/km's the car was indeed hesitant, and between 4,000-5,000rpm it actually had a flatspot. :thumbdo:

I personally think that Frikkie was driving the car so carefully, that it went into some kind of economy-setting, thus the one time he does floor it, the car would be lazy as hell. :dunno:

When he was here there was a slight noise, sounding like a noisy hydrolic lifter, and also the car sounds as if the PCV or something is sucking air, but I am no trained mechanic so I might be wrong. :fencelook: ...anyway...

Frikkie, drive her like we talked buddy, and if you get stuck, then make sure to scream as loud as you can at the motorplan people. :rollsmile:

Frikkie I'm with the guys on this one. You bought a car with MP for a reason so use it till the bitter end.

Give the car stick once or twice a tank. To burn and blow everything out the back. The Germans spend millions to have a motor that revs to 6000+ rpm so as Sank would say "DOOO EEEET".

Change dealer and go straight to the Dealer Principal tell him your story. Give the car another chance.

Last point, don't lose your hard earned cash because of someone elses incompetence.
