Update: I received the car back today without hickups except an annoying LH sticker that was achieved to te rear window.
(This was briskly removed ).
AC is cooling the occupants again. I will have to have it rechecked in a weeks time.

Thanks, but being pessisimistic that this is not the end of THIS car's trouble, I think that will have to wait. I deleted half of what I wanted to post here about BMW reliability. Being a BMW owner I expect a quality product that does not need lost of parts replaced. :sorry:

What was I dreaming
The ride is still the best I ever had, besides this.

Agree with Henry here, Frikkie, thats EXACTLY why I told you to go for a BM with motorplan, so you can take it to them and get EVERYTHING that isn't functioning well fixed, without you having to pay big money fot it.
And if it means you having to drive the Hilux for a day or 2, thats also cool, cause when you get the BM back, I know, you are ALL smiles!

Yep, motorplan is there for a reason! Hopefully all niggles will be sorted out sooner rather than later! I am generally very happy with mine! Have a little less than a year of motorplan left, so hopefully any issues that want to pop-up do so before out of motorplan.

Maximum motorplan time based is 7 years - so mine has been extended for as long as possible since the mileage is still very low. Once out of motorplan just going to have to DIY as much as possible - probably use the agents for normal servicing which is lengthy intervals in any case. I reckon in the next couple of years spare parts availability for E90's will be close to what it is like currently for E46's... Hope so!

Very, very nice!! What's your average fuel consumption so far?

Yesterday I saw an E90 320d that was a sort of metallic maroon or burgundy colour, saw it again today...

I keep a record on an Android phone with an app called FuelLog.
Here is a (interesting) list
Inintial fillup - no data: 2011/08/26 - 47l@R10,09/l
2011/09/04 - 46,15l@R9,91/l - 9,34km/l
2011/09/15 - 52,88l@R10,18/l - 11,44km/l
2011/09/27 - 55,65l@R10,18/l - 10,05km/l
2011/10/09 - 46,68l@R10,54/l - 8,95km/l

Accumulated cost / km = R1,02
Accumulated Ave KM/R = 0,98km

It varies greatly on the driving style and if you have urban traffic or open road highway. :joy::joy:

I don't know what BMW did, but their shop dropped my consumption to 5,6 km/l During the past week I slowly picked it up to 7km/l.
I honestly don't think I will get it back to 9 before the refuel.

I see a full Gautrain when the Highways are being tolled.

Frikkie, feul economy depends on how fast you drive to get to your favourite friends house when you dont want to be at home!

Yep, these cars tend to be quite fussy with varying driving conditions. Frequent short trips from cold and the fuel consumption will be horrible! Not good for any car of course, but that's beside the point. Generally though, I am very happy with my car's overall fuel consumption - I didn't buy it with economy in mind, but it's quite a bit better than I had originally anticipated! I drive with the onboard computer showing average consumption most of the time, and I use the econometer to "control" my fuel consumption as much as possible. Of course, it's a tough balancing act - econometer needle vs awesome I6 soundtrack!!

Don posted about a cool fuel consumption tracking site - have created an account along with a few other members already, seems like a pretty nifty idea!

Compared to my e46, this trip computer is 100% accurate.
I reset the average consumption upon refeuling. Do you suggest no resetting of the values?
What do you guys normally do?

reset everytime i refuel.

get 12kilos to a litre,work and back
get 9 to 10 kilos to a litre taking the wife to work in pretoria
got 15,5 kilos to litre average down to ballito
and at one stage got 17,7 kilos to a litre on the way to potgietersrus

find it quite economical
