Brilliant car.
I remember seeing the Car Magazine road test in 1999 of the 540iM. Even when they tested the M5 a year later, they commented why spend more when the 540iM was enough already.

Update time.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a set of Style 66s from Mo. They were in desperate need of a refurb. He was upfront about them. :praise:

I picked up the wheels from TWR. Their workmanship is top notch.
I'm still stuck in between which wheel looks better tho.

I will leave you guys to help me decide:tiptoe:

I'm still getting over over the excitement. This car moves along effortlessly. Still trying to get the fuel consumption to below 12 :fencelook:

Cheers.

Good morning gentlemen.

So last night my wife and I decided on a quick getaway to the Midlands. Decided to use the E39.

A quick spirited drive got me there in just over an hour.

This morning I cruised back down and was amazed at the fuel consumption. I stuck to the speed limit all the way back and it was still a joyful drive.

Sorry about the lack of pictures.

Hi guys.

No real updates but i got back from a nice cruise from Durban to East London and back.
My parents had a wedding to attend so i decided to drive them there. First i was going to use to my moms car but after driving the 540i on Thursday to the office i decided to use it instead. :tiptoe:

It just made the drive more effortless and comfortable for the 3 of us my dad included. There aren't pics as i didnt take much.

We left on Friday morning and it took me the better part of 9 hours due to the traffic in the smaller towns.

My return trip took me just 7 hours including a stop to stretch my legs in Umtata and a quick breakfast stop in Kokstad. Left EL at 6am was back home at 1pm.

Got some unusual stares cos of this last minute preventative measure for stone chips using painter's tape from Builders. :biglol:

:biglol: there aren't any real updates.

All I am doing currently is filling fuel and driving her every week or so.

Is there anyone who can help me with a decent mechanic in Durban who can help me some preventative maintenance.

I want to do the cooling system as good measure.

Lovely car, looks so clean :praise:

I see this also has very high gearing, same as the e34 540/6. I recently installed a 3.15 diff in mine (up from a 2.91 i think) and it has really woken the car up. I am now doing about 145 @ 3000rpm, still very nicely geared

Old Dutch Racing, they are reliable and by far the most honest workshop in Durban.

Small update. After driving the car last week. I noticed a slight noise coming thru while applying the brake. I knew immediately that i needed to change the brake pads.

After reading a write up 2 weeks ago on the forum about the Textar brand, I decided to go with this.

This brand was used on my moms Mercedes C Class and my precious ML and i never had any problems.

Now to source them..... after searching through Google i found a company called Partsworld who are the distributors for Textar. The best part, i have account with them as we buy parts from one of their subsidiaries and they all fall under one roof. :praise:

Pricing is as follow.

Front Discs. R275+VAT each
Rear Disc. NO STOCK
Front pads. R751 + VAT
Rear Pads. R355 + VAT

I bought 2 sets of front pads as there were only 9 sets available. :skit:

Hopefully i will be able to provide feedback next week when i have fitted the pads.

Cheers.
