My BMW M5 F90

So on the 400km drive home.

My review of the m performance exhaust.

What I wanted was it to sound like a deep throated v8.. My comparibles are my m6 which had downpipes with stock exhaust (opted to keep stock exhaust as sounded amazing) and a lumina with a straight pipe.

So I'm more into the deep bass sound of a v8 rather than the cracks and pops story, for me personally that belongs on a golf gti. I'd say you get about 30% more sound out the system. Unfortunately allot more crackle and pops in sports more, in normal mode not a massive difference.

I think the issue is the opf filters. On the late model m5s. Muffles the sound too much and they have had to tune in the cracks and pops to add some excitement. If you want the best sounding m5 you have to go pre 2020.
However from what I have read the system will bed in and sound better.

It does have lovely carbon fibre tips. Little disappointed so far overall though. Hoping I get more excited.

Other than that, was the money well spent?

None negotiable bud take it back
Problem is I'm 400km away not in Swaziland. Try not to put hectic mileage on the car.

On top of this they put the wrong spec of tyres on the car.

Bmw midrand solution is I just drive the 800km round trip to fix this. Said they will give me a tank of fuel as an apology.

Make them re-adjust it.

I would also request the exhaust tips to be brought out a little more, they far too in.

When the car is cold, and exhaust is cold, it should be sitting in line at the very least to the diffuser portion on top of them

eish bud i feel for you , but its not a cheap run around its a M car that costed alot , rather bite the bullet and use the mileage and then be 100% satisfied with the car and extras you paid for

Ya your right.

Had a proper look now.

Was really a joke the way this was mounted.

It's not level nor are the tips aligned with each other

Sadly that does look like a bit of a rush job.

Installation is poor, the tips should have been spaced out properly. The alignment could possibly be that a clamp was not tightened properly and it worked itself loose over your drive home.

In agreement with posts above, for Deep V8 grumbles, you would need to shop elsewhere, the more modern BMW V8s just don't have that (and coming from a Lumina - that is about as rumbly as they get). The Merc V8s have rumbles in dollops, even the newer turbo motors.

I would also suspect that a 400km drive would be suitable for "break-in", so-to-speak. It's not like these new motors pump out emissions and soot, which will coat the inside of the exhaust and dramatically change the sound.

Overall, this is still an epic car though. Great updates.

I have figured out the sweet spot with the exhaust, sports mode with the exhaust button off. So more sound and less cracks and pops.

That diffuser looks a bit busy...have you ever considered maybe removing the pieces under the exhaust tips and possibly spraying it above and around the hard lines

Instead of driving all the way back to bmw... You can try to adjust and line up the tips yourself, I stand to be corrected but all you need is to adjust the clamp as there is some adjustment wiggle room for the tips

Agree on the bottom pieces. I think do that and see what you think. I wouldn't spray the bits above the diffuser because then it would probably just look like an ordinary F90 diffuser with the centre in carbon IMHO. The actual diffuser section isn't nearly as aggressive or different as the MP or the CS is.

Even in black like the comp, sprayed it's gonna look like stock (and I know it is a bit different in shape, but the carbon is the star of this party IMO)

Painted/stock surrounds works with these (or the more aggressive aftermarket ones IMHO)

You can definitely give the alignment a go yourself. I removed the tips on my previous car quite easily for cleaning. I have found that the F90 doesn't have any deposits on the tips like the F10 did which again speaks to the emissions control (and muffling of sound by these things). I guess its even 'better/worse' on the LCI.

100% agree on removing the under pieces on the diffuser. The tailpieces thou still need to come more out imo

These are small issues in the grand scheme of things, all can be adjusted/removed or altered. Continue to enjoy the car!

BTW the pic of the new M5 in an earlier post looks awesome to me šŸ˜…
