Audi has a range of ordinary bland looking cars. BMW only has sexy looking machines

I would propose that the R8 is neither bland nor is it ordinary. By comparison BMW has nothing in that segment of the market currently with their only (limited) mid engined production car being the M1.

I think that what defines us as petrol heads is the love of all cars with a preference for BMW..........just saying.

That's true although there's a lot better BM's than audi. Audi jus have a few that really stand out the rest is average.

Audi are trying to displace BMW as the performance marque and will therefore advertise tongue in cheek.

The fact of the matter though is that they have made huge strides to closing the gap on the other 2 Germans and for that one needs to stand up and take notice.

Yes I agree they are not there yet but boy are they getting ever closer.

p.s and their spares are cheaper then BMW.
just my 2c

Oh really now? One of the many reasons I bought my 328i and not a A4 2.8 30v that i was also considering at the time was just that, the price of spares and maintainance. A e36 will always be cheaper to maintain than a B5 and the same goes for e46 vs B6.

IMO BMW and Merc will always be the originals. Audi will always be the brand that had to play catch up, which is always easier to do. Not to take anything away from them though, they do have some brilliant cars out there at the moment.

One thing has always got me thinking, there are far more high mileage BMW's out there than audi's...Makes you think....

Lol the above pic is hilarious :biglol:

But it is quite old, we all know BMW sold the F1 team, whereas Audi continued to dominate at Le-Mans with their diesel powered racers.

I love both marques, but I do feel it is about time both brands stop
p*ssy footing around and enter F1 as there are quality teams snapping at the big guns now (Sauber, Williams etc), it will be cool to see BMW-Sauber revisted and maybe a Williams/Audi tie up. The racing has been so exciting this year, with lots of teams can win this year, so they (BMW/Audi) can not ignore this marketing exposure, as they have the capacity to succeed in F1.

BMW really needs to assess their current positioning as they are focusing alot on green technologies as they market themselves as a performance orientated brand. There are still infrastructure issues with rolling out the i-Brand. All the fans are calling for more, cars that can dominate, like the Z4 M-Coupe, M7, M8 Super car, the fans want them but instead the fans get want the Board of Directors approve, which is not necessarily what the people want.

Looking at the photos, that R8 still looks good after all these years, hats of to them for that fantastic vehicle.

I for one could not care in the least if Tata or GWM won the F1. To me the results of F1 has no correlation to the manufacturer or their products to the public

The developement on a lot of the newer cars has technology directly from F1. Look at the new 5 series with Regenerative Braking. Love any car that shows off some really hot tech stuff like the TT RS which if you watch the touring cars you will know these things are fast and awesome looking as well but like many i am a BMW nut and will always be and more specifically M power cars. Enough said then.:=):

BMW is a performance orientated brand, that still makes the most fuel economical cars in class. As petrol prices rise, it becomes an increasing concern. BMW eficient dynamics are future orintated, giving great performance with great economy as well. Not everyone who buys a BMW buys it to drive around like they stole it.

Audi employ the one size fits all in design, now before you go pointing fingers at BMW - remember a boring over used design is different to a design language. BMW push the design envelope, go back a few generations and have a look, polarised opinions all the way, from bangle era.

Audi have lost their most profit per car to BMW recently as well. Now remember vs agh i mean audi share sooo many engines and cars and yet struggle to beat profit per car by BMW?

Remember BMW made a strategic decision to buy Mini and utilise it as the low entry into BMW, with a distinct difference in positioning. Global sales wise BMW stand alone is still ahead of audi, excluding mini, which the a1 competes directly with. add mini into the equation and bmw are a long way ahead.

BMW are pioneering the way forward, winning design, innovation, efficiency, engines, profitability etc etc.

That my friends is a great car company.

I will disagree on that, one just needs to look at the recent investment made by BMW in carbon-fibre manufacturing techniques, all ideas that originated from F1. Same goes with the E60 M5, BMW used to market it all with their F1 inspired experiances, when F1 ran V10 engines!

None of you actually get what I am saying.
When I said results, I meant who is in front. For instance - I would not drive a Renault even if someone paid me for it, but yet they seem to be in pole position fairly often.
BTW - the only thing an e60 M5 and a F1 car shares is the numerical number of cylinders
