It amazing what you can do with a 10 megapixel camera that's 9 years old, if you know what you are doing.

Really nice pics, and really RALLY, REALLY nice car bud!

Thanks very much! That camera was brilliant when it was new, and it is still brilliant.

...and so it is time for my custodianship of this M to come to an end. As of this morning, the M3 was officially sold. I am extremely happy to say that the new owner is someone who genuinely appreciates what I have done with this car, and will also continue the work that I started.

I will let the new owner decide if he would like to reveal himself.

A temporary interlude. I plan to do an MBA next year. This is certainly not my last S54 M, that's for sure.

A wise but nonetheless a difficult decision I'm sure. I'm sure she's In good hands...

My condolences to Adrian for letting go of his gem of a car, it must have been an extremely tough choice to make, but given the nature of the fanatic you sold it to I'm sure he will allow you visitation rights. She will be in safe hands for the foreseeable future.

Ya so anyway, I own this car again ;)

On to business.

I have a real issue when it comes to wear items on interiors, and steering wheels are among the things that bother me the most. No matter what I tried, I could never get the steering wheel on my M3 to return to a proper matte finish. The grain had also started to wear off on sections, and it generally just bugged the crap out of me.

For years I tried to find a local supplier who could recover the E46 M-sport steering wheel to factory-quality spec, but I could never find anything that I was satisfied with. I even considered buying a brand new steering wheel from BMW. A year ago the price was R9k which was reasonable considering it came with new trim and multifunctional controls. The price is now R12k. Stuff that.

So I gave up and decided to use Royal Steering Wheels in the UK who are amazing. I have seen their work all over M3cutters and a friend was kind enough to bring back a recovered steering wheel for me from the UK.

First things first, the car had to go in for the airbag recall:

A subtle message to the dealer as they scratched the trim when doing this job on my 330i:

Then it was finally time to install the new wheel. Old wheel and recovered wheel side-by-side:

Here you can see the difference in finish between the new and old:

Trim transfered over to the new wheel:

The new wheel is fantastic. It is pretty much exactly as a brand new wheel would be in thickness and feel. Very happy with the outcome.
