Right, it is time for a long overdue update. It has been awhile, but I have been busy getting this car to a point where I am quite proud of it. So let's pick up where we left off.
3 October 2015
Mileage 117 000km
I began with some small details that were bugging me:
-Replaced missing plugs for velour floor matts.
-New torx bolts for door panels
-Replaced the broken door panel clips on drivers side
-Fixed drivers door rattle.
15 october 2015
117500km
-Window Tint
-PDR
With the heat in summer, I like my cars to have a window tint to keep the interior cool and protected, as well as keeping prying eyes out. At the same time I decided to get Paintless Dent removal done, and the results were fantastic - all the little dents came out perfectly leaving the car entirely dent free.
11 November 2015
119 000km
Moving on to some more details, I purchased a leather key cover for the main key and replaced a missing jack pad.
-New Key Cover
-New Jack Pad
18 November 2015
119 500km
-Interior trim resprayed
-Wheels refurbished
Next was to deal with some of the cosmetics that were nit picking away at my OCD. The titan shadow trim was, as usual, pealing and bubbling. So I removed the trim and had it resprayed and the results were outstanding. I then also had the wheels redone not because they needed it, but I wanted them perfect.
23 November 2015
120 100km
-New ZHP ‘weighted’ Gearknob + leather gaitor
-New boot struts
Now with the interior trim looking brand new, the worn gearknob had to go. I purchased brand new ZHP weighted gearknob as well as 330i leather gaitor replace the original one-piece unit. The boot struts were also feeling a bit lazy, so I replaced those too.
7 December 2015
120 700km
-New Spare Key (DriveSure)
Once again with the car only having a plastic spare key, I had to succumb to the temptation to make things right and buy a new spare key.
9 December 2015
120 767km
Brilliant Mechanical Workshop
-Alternator rebuild
-Brake Fluid
-Gearbox Fluid (BMW MTF LT-2)
One morning I noticed the battery light was flickering on and off. Knowing exactly what this meant, I took the car straight to Brilliant Mechanical Workshop (whom I have an excellent relationship with and trust them a lot). The removed the alternator and had it rebuilt, and then at the same time I decided to change out the brake fluid and gearbox fluid. I couldn't believe how much the gearbox felt with new fluid - shifts were dramatically smoother.
30 December 2015
122 134km
SMG BMW
-Oil Service
-Airbag Recall
-Replaced Tyre Refill Bottle
-Replaced missing Wheel Spanner and Screwdriver in Toolkit
Sticking to my mantra of changing oil every 10 000km, it came to the point for an oil change. The previous owner had inspection II done at BMW at 105000km, and then when Peter did the bearings the oil was changed at 112 000km. This presented me with a dilemma because I really don't like sending my car to BMW, but I wanted to keep the FSH with BMW. So, reluctantly I sent the car into SMG BMW for an oil change and at the same time they did the E46 airbag recall. I had also ordered some other parts and collected them at the same time.
The refill gel that is part of the M mobility kit had expired in 2007 and never been replaced, so I got a new one. I also bought the remaining missing tools to complete the toolkit in the boot.

CK Express
-Front and rear bumper respray
To finish off the car cosmetically, I decided to have both bumpers resprayed. Neither were that bad, but again wanting the car to be as good as I can get it, I had the work done. CK Express has done work for me before and they delivered outstanding work. At this point, the cosmetics of the car are simply excellent.

-Clutch & Flywheel
I had some bad luck with the clutch on this car. The clutch was only 50 000km old, and so I really didn't anticipate needing to do a clutch, but the geniuses at BMW who fitted the clutch on motorplan, did so incorrectly, and this resulted in the pressure plate collapsing and damaging the release bearing. The friction plate was perfect. The flywheel presented some play that was unacceptable, so the solution was new clutch and flywheel.
After all this work and effort, I decided that the I wanted a proper record of all this effort. So I gathered together all the invoices, motorplan history, RWC, pretty much everything bit of paperwork I have on the car, and put into a really nice flip file in chronological order. It's really quite an impressive little book.
At this point, I am happy to say that the car is now in a condition that I am very happy with, and it has all its ducks in a row; from books and invoices, to spare keys, toolkits, bits and bobs, and not to mention the engine pulls like an absolute train. I have taken one or two fanatics for a drive and everyone has been really impressed. What a car!
And because we all love pics, here are some pics.
