I was wondering why you don't see that many of them on the roads anymore, could this possibly be the reason?

That is what I think because the engine is magnificent won a couple of times the engine of the year awards; always loved the e39 m5's never heard anything bad about them they just keep on running, think the e39 m5 is more reliable than the bmw 318is I used to own.

I can understand what you are saying about reliability, since I never really heard my buddies mention anything but the cost of general maintenance? Hence the desire to own this specific car.

Unfortunately not, this guy just converted from a C55 AMG to an E39 M5 and is loving every minute of it. Seriously doubt he'd sell?
