BMW F20 20D Shadow

After looking for a new car for some time I finally pulled the trigger on my first bmw.

I am a member of the vw club and come from a golf 6 gti and a 1.9 TDi,both being modified stage 2 cars. I really love diesels so made perfect sense and considering current fuel prices efficiency was tip of mind.

I collected my bmw on Friday, from a JHB seller.

It is a late 2018 120d shadow edition with 53k on the clock.A very clean car.

Car has the following:

Msport package
Aero package
18 inch msport alloys
Reverse camera and PDC
Sunroof
Idrive system
Digital/led cluster
ZF 8 speed auto

I drove her down to durban on the Saturday morning and really enjoyed/appreciated how comfortable the trip was. I managed an average fuel consumption of 4.4l per 100km!
For me personally it the perfect amount of power vs efficiency.

So we shall see what the future holds regarding mods but will be kept oem+ for now until the motorplan expires and then I may do software and perhaps a larger intercooler and decat (63mm DP) only-no straight pipes here lol

One item I could not live with was the fact the car had a standard fugly steering wheel, I immediately went on the hunt for a msport wheel and managed to get a F30 wheel. I just need to get the airbag sorted now and refurb/clean up the used wheel.

I look forward to joining the bmw family and attending some events around kzn.
Still lots to learn about bmw's.

Pretty sure changing that steering wheel can get you in to trouble motorplan wise...best to chat to the dealership close to you first just to be sure. Congrats and enjoy
Thanks for the heads up,I will chat to my dealership when i migrate the motor plan into my name.

Good-morning and welcome!

Congrats on your new purchase, they are stunning cars!

This car is a F20 as the F21 is the 2-door version. With regards to it being 2018, in my opinion, that steering wheel is a non M-Sport steering wheel and that shape stopped in late 2014. Your steering wheel you bought now is the one that is standard in these cars from 2015 onwards. Is there any reason why that steering wheel was swopped? Maybe first owner specced it like that?

I think there was shortage of the M-Sport steering wheels, there were a few M-Sport F30s which also had these steering wheels.

You could put the vin into a decoder like the one below to check what steering wheel this car was originally fitted with.

Hey ash,

Thanks so much bud! Noted I always thought the f21 referred to the face lift. Good to know,I just need to edit my title somehow.

The original owner got the car with that steering wheel, I found it rather odd.when i was shopping around I saw a few shadow editions with that same wheel which was strange. The wheel was almost a deal breaker at one point for me. It must feel sporty if it has the m sport package after all.

Any idea of someone whom can clean the msport steering wheel up in durban area?
It's not terrible so perhaps I will try sort it out with some off the shelf products and see if it helps.

Sorry I could be mistaken!! Will correct this, still learning!

No Stress. Just mentioned it in case a seller was trying their luck with you :)

Double clutch transmissions are not as ubiquitous in the BMW stable as they are in the VAG stable.

The ZF 8HP is a real peach. Enjoy the car, bro.

I have edited your title for you. LCi = Facelift (Life Cycle Impulse)

Try to clean your steering yourself with a good cleaner, it doesn't look bad at all from the picture. If you want it professionally cleaned, Detail Xcellence in Durban has my vote - epic work from Ricardo.

Congrats on a lovely vehicle, especially this spec. Wishing you many miles of smiles.

I also thought so but that is a non- N-Sport steering so just pointing it out, not being malicious or anything. Just a weird difference that i noticed. Mine has the fat M-Sport steering wheel but damn I love it...even over the new one. The chunky feeling is lekker.
