I agree the beast is waiting to be unleashed
Definitely, with the M performance exhaust and TU Pump alone, this car already feels pretty quick. Having only witnessed the N55 tuned, I can only imagine what this platform is capable of.
Mod it man! tons of fun up ahead the mod journey!
I'm keen to know how much these Gen 1s can handle on a stock turbo. I think you need to join me bro, M135i hasn't been replaced yet after all 👀 🤣

It's so hard to get to any shell in my area, there are tons of engen fueling stations though... Definitely more power from shell fuel. My M340i would pop and bang with shell but almost silent with Engen.
Funny enough, there's actually an Engen Garage not even 1km away from my pozi.

The closest Shell Garage is the one by Gateway, which is about 5kms or so away from me. I still choose to go fill up there though. I like to make use of my V-Card points 🤣 🤣 🤣

I have gotten lazy but also I am getting points from clicks :ROFLMAO: Sacrificing performance for rewards from clicks :ROFLMAO:, same boat as you engen is 1km away and shell 5km but in Gauteng! I will fuel up at shell once this tank is dry. Car looks good nice and shiny!

Haaibo Nish,

You hit a sensitive spot there...but yes soon soon hopefully I can replace it. My ultimate would have been the exact spec of your M140i... that B58 is something else!

Update

I took the M140i for its usual weekend drive. To my surprise, I received a coolant low message which was very odd considering I only use this car on weekends usually.

There was no leaks or signs of coolant leaks anywhere in the engine bay nor on the floors and there was still coolant in the actual tank just below the minimum. I had changed the waterpump, oil filter housing, thermostat, hose and coolant flange last year when I bought the car which was about 6k ago mileage to be exact, so a leak at this rate was highly unlikely.

I did some research on the B58 forums and one of the things I didn’t think of was the actual expansion tank cap, as many owners reported that their caps broke, leading to loss of coolant in the form of air. I had a look at my cap and I could see that it deteriorated substantially as the O-Rings had cracks on them.

I managed get a new set for both cars at the same time from SMG. Costed me R336.

Definitely a big difference between the old one and the new one.

Thought I’d drop a few recent pics of the beast taken recently.

I know I said my 240 was the best looking car I ever owned, but I’m beginning to think otherwise now.

Car was used for my cousin’s matric dance a few weeks back.

This car is crying to be driven more, you need to send it to me for a bit Nish
I'm using the car for this whole week just to monitor the coolant levels now that I've gone ahead and replaced the expansion tank cap.

But I get you, I definitely need to use this car a bit more going forward. The thing is, my job requires me to travel almost every 2nd week. One week I'm in Cape Town, and then the next I'm down in PE or EL. When I'm not around, my brother uses the F30 to campus and back just to have it run.

I'm hoping to relocate either to JHB or CT within the next year or 2, and if that happens, chances are I'll end up taking the 140 with me wherever I go. I'd definitely love that, its a car I don't ever plan on selling.

Makes 3 of us then when counting in @Chris_31 that picked up coolant issues in the past week...my car is currently at BMW with multiple failed coolant parts. I've already done the pump and tank previously...now its the other items it seems.

I just don't understand why BMW made the quality of the cooling system as shitty as they are.

I have had more coolant leaks on both, the 140 and my B48 than I ever did with my N55, N20 and ex M240i combined.

I wanted to check my coolant last night, so I left the car off for more than 2 hours and the engine was still really hot. Managed to check it this morning and thankfully its still at max which is a good thing.

Coolant temp is around 110 ish or so.

Well after this exercise I will have a new coolant pump, expansion tank, aux water pump, intake manifold incl. charge cooler, oil filter housing and I am going to replace some of the hard-to-reach pipes now even if they are not an issue.

Damn bro, I'm really sorry to hear about this.

It definitely will be very costly, but at the end of the day, but its better to address these issues now before they get even worse at a later stage.

If you out of plan, I advise considering an aftermarket aluminum oil filter housing and flange. Better quality compared to the shit plastics BMW Uses.

Even if I don't have an issue with the car, I plan on doing these now that she's out of warranty.

Ever since changing the cap, I have driven the car for the whole of last week covering around 350kms in total, I thankfully haven't witnessed any loss of coolant since (touchwood).

All the best bro, do keep us updated.

All good...not awesome but seeing as the coolant system is a known issue on these motors I guess one could expect to deal with this at some point. And since I'm planning on keeping the car another year or two, might as well address it now and fix it properly. Car is being repaired by BMW under their warranty plan that I took. The warranty is contributing and the dealership has offered a goodwill contribution as well towards the cost. As much as it's not a great experience, I'm glad these known issues will be addressed now and sorted. I have a good service advisor and workshop manager too which helps and involves me in the process.

I glad to hear your coolant is holding now, that is great to hear! 👏🏻
