Coming together nicely, try The Wheel Shop as well for trade in deals on rims, I often see them available, forum sponsor too if I am not mistaken

I am seriously battling to make my mind up about gloss vs matt for the boot spoiler, rear diffuser and possibly front spoiler :hammerhead:

I think the gloss might go well with the mineral grey...but then the matt black creates such nice contrast...

What do you guys think - help me here please! hehehe. I kinda like just doing the splitters in the front...not sold on the whole spoiler set up for me. But I'd like to go either gloss or matt for all 3 - front and rear spoiler and diffuser.

Spoke to them this morning, they had a set of 442's but gone already. I want the 442's with the grey inserts. He is gonna try source a set for me to trade. Thanks a mil.

Gloss black!

Matte is over done and common, my opinion.
I just laughed my ass off...common. :bravo: Hehehe - if I go the common route please don't shun me :smilebounce: I honestly cannot decide at this point but have been leaning towards the gloss side since the start. Think its best for me to have a look at a few examples - so if you see a strange guy inspecting your car it might be me :=):

I also think gloss black is the way to go.

Will compliment the mineral grey nicely. Matte tends to go well with lighter colours.

Also bear in mind the grilles are already gloss and suits the car.

In fact I would appreciate if admin could just delete the negative stuff as this is not what I wanted my thread to be about. dunno anymore"

You are being sensitive and rather naive to think that because you find your mods acceptable that everyone on this board will share your vision or taste.

You post for the express purpose to showcase your modification which in turn will garner both positive and negative comments.
A comment was made in specific reference to the M badge on the grille specifically that "it does not belong"
That is a statement of fact and is neither positive or negative.
You asked "how so man" and I explained the reason.

None of the posts made about the M badge were emotional they were factual.

Now stop being so sensitive and entitled and enjoy modding your car to your hearts content.
Some will like it and others may not however as you correctly stated it is yours and you are entitled to do with it as you please.

Good to remember that because you can does not expressly imply that you should.

Thanks bud...and yes the FACT is my car came out of BMW's factory with M badges on - three of them to be precise - so if anyone feels they don't belong write BMW a letter. Don't vent your stuff on my thread please. You've already had your say now move along please if you don't mind. If you wish to discuss further send me a PM and let's leave my thread for what it is meant for - just posting pics of my car and changes and asking for guidance and advice. Cheers

If you like it that is all that matters at the end of the day. You will find people's fight is often with BMW on this one...

Let's not kid ourselves - BMW has bastardised the M badge to the point that pretty much anything (including active tourer nonsense and 116/8i with Peugeot engines) carried the badge... @Salt is 100% right in that this car came with these badges from the factory.

Then came M Performance... fair enough (In the case of the cars Mx35/40/50d etc - this SHOULD have arguably how the M brand should have been used outside of the full-fat M cars).

Now with the way they are branding things (I am talking actual CI/use of the brand - even on clothing and stuff) I wonder if anyone actually knows what they are doing with the brand anymore.

It has become so bad that they have had to invent first the so-called standalone Competition sub brand then even more faux exclusivity with various editions, CS, GTS etc...

====

ANYWAY

Gloss black or carbon please. Matte (unless you have a frozen paintjob) looks like you bought something from china mall and were too poor to paint it especially on a great colour like yours.

442Ms will be snapped up incredibly quickly at 10K. If you get a set for way less then expect problems. Hopefully you find a set. Get TWS to let you know and follow them on social media. With Gumtree/OLX Just be careful... buying rims in SA is an ordeal. Even wheels that you wouldn't think would have replicas available have been copied... Also if those wheels do not have the orbit grey inserts you're talking about then they have probably been refurbed or are reps. I ended up just buying new wheels from BMW...

I wouldn't bother changing the colour on your OEM wheels - I don't think it will look good on one hand (and I actually love the finish on these wheels) and on the other you will discover the cesspit of SA Wheel refurbishers that you have a 50/50 chance of having success with.

Awesome advice...and thanks to everyone else as well. I have def decided to go the gloss route! I had the side skirt decals done as Sat - the one side is perfect but the other side has a few issue but the installer asked me to give it a few days in the sun to let any bubbles go out...not sure if that is how it works with the vinyl but will give it till this weekend - does that sound right? The left side is perfect. While I was there I tried a gloss black boot spoiler - its the M Performance style one - the one in middle of the very thin one and the M4 one. The finish on it wasn't great so I gave it a skip but damn it looked so cool...I am speaking to someone else from the forum now to source me one.

When I bought the car from BMW, they told me as part of their select pre owned range the re-spray the front and rear bumpers to freshen them up again. I can tell they did cause they sprayed the rear diffuser the same colour as the bumper :hammerhead: Now I am in two minds...either replace it with the M Performance rear diffuser in gloss black or have the existing rear diffuser re-sprayed again but glass black or the original gloss dark grey...right now I am leaning towards re-spraying the current one gloss black...I think it will compliment the gloss black spoiler nicely. Please give me some input here?

On the rims...I agree with you. I've completely abandoned the idea of re-spraying my current 403 rims. Gonna hold out for a set of 442's. In the mean time the 403's are really growing on me...I can see why BMW chose them - they ooze BMW style. And didn't know that about the grey inserts...thanks for the heads up there!

Congrats on the car. Do whatever makes you happy in your own csr, but try and keep it classy and not riced.

Ill let you tomorrow what boot spoilers we have left tomorrow.

With regard to the diffuser, definately a gloss black Performance diffuder, I wouldn't bother wasting thr money to spray the existing one.

Ill send you pics and pricing of those as well tomorrow.

With regard to the vinyls, you can press the bubbles out easily. Take your credit card and wrap it in a handkerchief. Then press the bubbles out by sliding the card over the vinyl at a 45° angle.

OK sharp thanks...def wana keep it classy. I am super proud to own a BMW now and my first one. And its awesome to be part of a community that feels the same over their rides.

Will lookout for your whatsapp tomorrow

Thanks for the advice on the vinyl. Will try park it with that side in the sun this week and see if they go away and give the credit card strategy a try. But if it doesn't come out I will take it back. The installer was happy for me to bring it back and for me...I won't sleep at night knowing there is a bubble there LOL...its a BM...has to look sharp. :smilebounce:

Appreciate it

Hi all.

My car is at BMW today - the rear bumper keeps popping out of its clip and the boot lid then closes on it. While there they are going to re-spray the rear diffuser the correct colour. Will buy me some time to save for the M Sport rear diffuser :smilebounce:

On another note...just ordered the M Sport rear spoiler in gloss from Firi...cannot wait to get it. Just trying to decide on 3M tape VS skia fix adhesive. I've looked at a few vids online...most use the 3M tape - get the spoiler in to position, use masking tape to tape the corners down, flip it over, pull the film from the 3M tape and then flip it back over making sure the masking tape stays tight. Any suggestions?

My spoiler is stuck down with 3M tape and seems to be good still :smilebounce:

Make sure they paint the diffuser gloss black.. I would've also arranged for them to fit the spoiler on at the same time.

The two way tape BMW use is relatively inexpensive (less than R150 for a roll, 1 car application). My issue with Sikaflex is the removal, its great to make sure the item is properly fastened though.

Its gloss black yes - its from Firi. And I am having it delivered cause its too far a drive for me but also keen to try and install myself. On that note of yours...can you remove a 3M tape stuck spoiler and clean the tape off the car again?
