Some history:
Bought the car in September 2007. It was dropped to the ground. I measured the sump from the ground and it was 7cm! The previous owner also removed the wheels on the car as they wanted the good tyres. He then put Nissan STI wheels on.

When I got it:

Since then I've done the following:
Replaced suspension with original
Replaced clutch
Fixed the head lights (They were shining in every direction except right ahead)
Stopped the boot from leaking
Fixed sound system (Previous owner did the worst job ever)
Re-did the brakes at the back
Got rid of the STI wheels
Had to redo the head beginning of the year
Replaced drive shaft coupling
Got BMW mudflaps

And this is what it looks like now.

I actually need to take more pics as this seems to be the only one I have of what the car looks like now.

Things to do:
Get original head lights
Respray bumpers
Replace Steering Rack
Replace front brake discs
Get rid of stupid Pioneer front loader
Replace back plane as the previous owner abused it with a rusted spoon or something to fit the speakers :slap:

E30 318i Cold Start

This was in the middle of winter last year.

Engine is stock standard. The middle box got a tear in end of last year and was making... well... a broken exhaust noise (VERY LOAD). So I replaced the broken box and it turns out that the broken box's baffles were ALL shot and that's why my car sounded like it does in the Video, before the box itself broke. Now it still has a bit of grrr noise, but is very quiet actually even though I replaced the old box with the exact same box. Here to hoping the the current one's baffles will go as well

It crossed my mind, but if I were to do such a swap I would like to do it with a body that has a factory fitted sun roof and I would also prefer it to be 2 door and I would want to put in a S38 :drool:

On Saturday the car felt very weird. So i took the car to a mechie and after some inspection we found that one gearbox mounting is broken and that the engine mountings are also done. So I replaced them all.

I didn't think to take pics of the new mountings to compare.


The engine vibration feels weird now. It's almost a Rattling/vibrating effect going through the whole car and humming a little.

No... it's the engine. You can feel it best when the car is stationary and you rev up the engine a little.

At first I thought the same, but I dunno. It almost feels like the motor has a shudder on it, but I opened the bonnet and it seems fine/normal.

I dunno... I'm servicing the car this weekend. Will see if there is any improvement.

The E30 is still one of the most economic ars to maintain! Even my E30 333i was easy enough to service DIY and parts were affordable!

my e36 also feels weird after i had the engine mountings replaced.it could be the other suspension parts that have worn with the engine mountings now youve got new mountings but the other suspension bushes and rubbers are still worn making it rock a little more than normal.

I don't know what to look at really. It feels almost like a diesel clutter.

maybe propshaft? or centre bearing?

It could be, but the clutter effect is there even if the car is stationary and just idling. I'm going to service the car tonight and will take it to a mechie on Saturday so we can try and find out why it's doing this.
