Welcome to the family :roflol:
The CD shuttle can be checked by swapping out with a working one , they do give trouble when old and are too expensive to fix . You can fit a frontloader if you like .Window switch easy to replace , Goldwagen sells them for around R100 or so .If the brake pads wore down and activated the light it may have to be reset .I have never let my disc pads get so thin that the light comes on .

I drove one of these for about 3 years. It was my first foray into the world of BMW. In many ways this is probably the best car I have ever had. Nice choice.:=):

The kilos are a bit high, but the previous owner had the car for 11 years and had everything done at the dealers. Even the lightbulbs that blew were bought from BMW. Everything works except the CD shuttle, and one of the window switches. Also the ABS and brakes warnings are on, cause the dealer I bought it from replaced the pads with ones w/o sensors. I guess the ABS warning is related to that or am I wrong?

Like Raybimmer says, the CD shuttles do give problems on the 'verts' but from time to time you get them so would not worry about that to much. As for the ABS light that's on, it won't have anything to do with the 'brake sensor' as such, cause the ABS sensors are seperate sensors (one on each wheel) where the brake sensors are only one on one of the front wheels and another sensor on one of the rear wheels. If you do have a problem with the ABS sensors, don't buy any as I have two sets lying around, one came from my 'vert' and you are welcome to them, we will only need to check what ABS system was on the '96 models as these sensors came from a '99 with ASC?

Thanks guys. Good news is I got the shuttle working. I read somewhere (i think one here, but I was on a million sites yesterday) on how to remove the cartridge with a credit card. I removed it, put it back and voila!! Now just the windows switches and the ABS. Thanks for the offer for the ABS sensors. Are they prone to failure, or should I take it for diagnostics? Any suggestions to where I should go in Klerksdorp?
