So this will probably be my last update.
Late last year I had an incident with the car, driving out of an extremely poor maintained driveway in wyneburg the under carriage of the car took a knock. Now maybe I should describe this driveway in a bit more details.
The thing is almost flat level until you pass the rollers for the gate and then immediately has a minimum 30cm drop to nothing, it’s not paved or tared just a crater of gravel.
So after the car took the fall on the gate railing, I managed to reverse out as going forward was going to be impossible and probably cause more damage.
I looked under the car to inspect the damages and dont see anything major other than the cover which were scrapped and ripped, I figured it’s just cosmetic and I can reassemble the cover.
The drive home was fine and although bumper to bumper traffic the car showed no sign of anything major. Got home, put the covers back and continued as normal.
Now the next morning is when things started to turn ugly.
On my way to the office I noticed that the car was jerky, keeping at a constant speed the revs would keep bouncing. I thought that I probably filled up with a bad batch of fuel and it will play out. But to be safe I made my broker aware of what happened and I tried to keep it parked of and use alternative transport.
A few days later I topped up with Liqui molly diesel tech and took it for a spin, still under the impression that it was the fuelling related.
Getting back home from the test drive I get a low coolant warning and when I go to inspect I almost fell dead with shock. There was a white paste surrounding the expansion tank lid. I knew immediately that oil and coolant was mixed, and the jerkiness meant that it was transmission fluid.
I pulled out the dip stick from the engine just to be sure and it was all clean with no sign of coolant mixing.
A few days later the car was towed for an assessment. Unfortunately it was close to the shutdown period and i would have to wait for an update in the new year.
So patiently I waited and was told that the car is Beyond Economical Repairs and would be written off, they said that the claim would be for the gearbox and motor.I reviewed all possibilities including buying back the car and repairing it. But have decided to take the blow and let it be.
This is probably the hardest update I have ever posted and also a very emotional one. I truly loved this car and it was hands down the best car I have ever owned. With 280k km on the clock it never skipped a beat. It had soul and the amount of smiles and joy I experience driving it can never be replaced with another car. It was special in every way.
It just such a sh*t way to lose a car, guess that’s what making it harder to get over.
These are the last pics I have just before it was towed away.:blueCry:
