We had to get it out somehow. I really did not even guessed that it would have helped
But you trusted me with Suzzie, Right? :praise:

You will love the extra oomph down here at the coast, although a tad hungrier on fuel.

That tiktik if it is the lifters and since the car is still under motorplan, they MUST replace the affected parts or for that matter the entire head. It's apparently such a well documented and common problem that only affects certain engines in this engine family.

Brace yourself for a very long thread, but worth skipping through for advice and experience of other E90 I6 owners: Metallic Ticking noise coming from engine?

Also plenty YouTube vids for an idea of the typical noises. Mine seems to be fine, but there is a faint "rattling" knocking sound that from what I have read is most likely the clutch release bearing. As long as it doesn't get any worse or cause something to fail I would rather leave it alone than have the agents poke around.

On a side note, took me a while to get used to the feel and character of this car and of course things like the CDV clutch behaviour - throttle can be jerky at low speeds when crawling with moderate throttle input. Solution, less pussy-foot, more throttle. Again, at low speeds, to prevent that annoying clutch snatching as you change gears or de-clutch while coasting to a stop like in a parking area. Solution for my car is to just keep your foot that extra bit longer on the throttle before de-clutching or changing gear - smooth and super refined now! When I drive my Wife's E46, there are similarities, but throttle behaviour is slightly different - clutch much the same though...

The only thing that is annoying me at the very moment are these bloody Conti RFT's - the Hankook RFT's are SOOOO much better!! If only BMW would see the light...

Allright Philip - now tell me why did you mention RFT'd in your post yesterday hey?

To you all - happy Run Flat Day ! :roflol:
Today was a nice eventful RFT day.
Just as I pulled out at Stormvoël Toll gate I hear something that sounds like a tap - left rear. There after silence. Drove about 100km/h and as I approached the N4 / N1 interchange , I heard it again...almost instantanously the BIG red RFT indicator (!) came on. I stopped and noticed the left rear tyre is deflated. I carried on driving on BMW's RFT @ +/- 50-60km/h, up to John Vorster (otherwise I would be late for an important meeting) and pulled over at the HighVeld TechnoPark Engen. Tried to inflate the bugger, without success.
So I parked the car at my place of work. After the meeting I did some chores and left for the Centurion HQ.
This is what was found:

I was advised not to plug it, but to replace the tire. :argh:
So I decided to take a chance and have it plugged plus balancing the front wheels in the hopes that I could get rid of a slight annoying steering shake. And here is the bill:

Hopefully the plug lasts.

I managed to reset the BIG red (!) using this metod:

Q. How do I reset my flat tire pressure monitor without iDrive?
A.
1. Start the engine, but before pulling away, refer to step 2.
2. Using the scroll button on the blinker stalk, scroll until the appropriate symbol (flat tire with exclamaition mark in the center) appears in the display, accompanied by the word "INIT" or "RESET".
3. Press the BC button to confirm your selection.
4. Press BC button again and hold for approx 5 seconds. You will see a check mark appear next to the word "INIT" or "RESET".
5. Start to drive the vehicle 2 to 4 miles at a steady speed and after restarting vehicle the monitor will be reset.

So Philip, I hope you read this and reply with something about turbo's, dyno tuning and chipping or something like that

LOL, that man called Murphy!! I maintain, a repaired RFT is safer than a repaired non-RFT tyre!! And it seems to be far enough from the shoulder and sidewall, just keep an eye on it for bulges etc...

Which RFT's are these BTW? Yep, spot on with the tyre pressure initialising! Never seen this in action until the other day when I fitted those blasted Conti RFT's - they hadn't inflated to the same pressures that I had them initialised to. So the next day I am driving along and all of a sudden, "BONG" and that big red (!) warning appears. Stopped as soon as I could, all fine, so there was enough of a drop in pressure with the pressures that they had inflated to trigger the system. Concerning though that it took as long to detect this, and it did so when braking to stop at a robot - uses the ABS to detect this. Checked pressures and adjusted and then initialised.

RFT's have their advantage, but still want to invest in a space-saver. I do have an electric air compressor and a simple puncture repair kit, but nothing beats having a spare wheel!!

Well, when chipping a turbo'd engine it needs to be dyna tuned!!

Nothing beats my ex-ex-Corolla from many years ago - had six punctures with that car, next Corolla, which I owned for 5 years (a year longer that the previous one), no punctures!!!

LOL, bullet hole - and we are concerned about pot holes... :nonono:

BTW Philip - tires are Bridgestone Potenza 225/50R16.

How's the ride on these tyres? Comfort should be fine, but what about tramlining? Most noticeable as you approach intersections...

The Conti's are BAD!! :nonono:

They are pretty good, the ride is stable and quiet. I personally don't like Conti's as a rule.
The ride is not as harsh as my bakkie or lowered suspension e46.

No tyre issues here.

My last experience with Conti's was many years ago when we fitted them on our old Toyota bakkie - those tyres were out of round from day one!! :nonono:

I think with the 16" size it is a bit more forgiving - a bit more sidewall to allow flexing. I don't know at this stage what the tyre life is suppose to be with these Conti RFT's, but they seem to very hard in terms of the rubber compound! So once my motorplan is up, one of two things will happen - either I will just stick to the 17" and fit Hankook RFT's all round, or I will spoil myself with a set of 18" ellipsoids and just put non-RFT Hankooks on...

I can get used to the RFT idea, but I prefer a backup still like a little MarieBiscuit.

Here is irratic idling that is still with me. I will have this one booked after the Zwarkops meet for obvious reasons.

This video was taken when the tank was almost empty and can be the result of some fuel line cleaner still present in the system.

Don't know what to make of that irregular idling?? I gather the engine was up to temperature - ambient temperature seems to be quite warm too from what I see. And the agents, what have they had to say about this?

Yep, low profiles look awesome on the E90 - just like 17" looks amazing on E46's, 18" especially look great on E90's!! So guess what I might be buying myself for Christmas for next year!!! :)
