My e90 325i

I never thought I would say this, but I would next time seriously consider merc. Had my 325 with FSH and inspections and as you can see, I had it for less than a week and it broke down. Not too happy @ the moment. The old 323 broke down, the newer 325 broke down, now its a Breek Maar Weer. :=)::=):I dont care if it has MP, it should not give this sh%t. I would have to investigate this a little further.

Frikkie, remember to keep us posted as to the costs, the treatment, everything ok buddy, :thumb: and sorry for the crap with the car man, it's never nice when our cars break down, especially one you only had for a week.

I got the car back from Leo Haese Hatfield. E decided to take a trip to my folks on Klerksdorp. Batteling through the traffic was not a friendly affair, I wanted to see what this machine is capable off on the open road. Only when we hit the N12 at Westornaria, did I experience pure joy. This car is best on the open road, overtaking is effortlesly and handelling is fantastic.

Those 18" wheels are quite nice - been playing with the idea of getting them for my car. Just not so keen on the narrow/wide configuration when it comes to rotating the tyres which you then can't do. Also if sticking with RFT's which on the E90 makes the most sense, I think the ride can be fairly harsh. Well the 17" RFT's are very firm, so I can only speculate that 18" RFT's would be a fair bit firmer, especially on the rear. Sportpack must be a whole other story then too!!
These cars are a dream on the open road especially!! They seem to be in their element and eat the km's effortlessly! Sounds like you have already put the unfortunate niggles behind you, which I am glad! So enjoy! But remember, motorplan is 'your' friend!! :thumbs:

Here is a vid of my first misfortune before it was fixed - as mentioned, the crankshaft bolt broke and affected the timing. BMW Leo Haese fixed this without issues. I were unable to find rag inside the engine compartment :rollsmile:
The silver plastic is just too loose to my liking. Donno if this is normal.

What impress me most of the car is the 6 speed gearbox. :thumbs:
Here is a vid showing the rpm at about 120km/h. I filled up just before Potch on the way to Pta and travelled 221 km with an average consumption of 7.1l/100km, according to the trip computer :excited:

That ticking sound from the engine almost sounds like this!

There is a huge thread about this issue on the E90Post forum - it deals with the noise in that case being caused by hydraulic lifters, so under motorplan these various affected parts or in some cases the entire head gets replaced!
Yep, same as the 330i - long legs for the open road and plenty of reserve for overtaking! Under normal driving conditions the engine/exhaust note is so subdued and subtle which makes for a comfortable and relaxed drive - but give it some "stronger" inputs and the engine/exhaust opens up very nicely!
7.1 l/100 km is awesome! From the breakfast run today, at one point my average consumption was 7.9 l/100 km, after the 400 km round trip and since I was solo, some spirited driving on the return, my overall average consumption by the time I got home was 8.1 l/100 km which is not bad I reckon!
These cars are light on fuel when driven sensibly, but will use more fuel when the power is asked for - fair enough! :thumbs:

Glad you finally got the issue sorted and are enjoying that straight 6 :thumbs:
6th gear is indeed amazing, doing 120 and you sit well below the 3k rpm mark...makes for a quiet drive. One thing I love though is that even at 2.5k rpm, I can still give 50% on the accelerator and pick up quite a bit of speed.
I noticed the power a lot more today at the breakfast run, especially being alone (no extra weight) in the car. When we were going along the winding coastal road I was sitting in 4th gear and easily powering out of the corners even at those slower speeds.

Tomorrow a glass company will make some money off road works. I am having the windscreen replaced - It is a first EVER (been on the road for 21 years).
Freaken meteorite hit the windshield in the upper right corner :argh: . The line was +/-4cm when I stopped at work on Thusrday morning. That afternoon it was +/- 15cm when returning to the car. :bangdesk:
Can anyone recommend some windshield protection besides leaving the car in the garage? :idea:

Does anyone know what should I look out for upon acceptance of the job?
