Hi Joe

Welcome, beautiful colour combo.

I own a 850Ci in Laguna Green, have had major hassles with mind since purchased, but am getting close to her being fit for enjoyment.

Currently at Dave Robinson JHB while he tries to sort her out.

I watched Topgear the other night and it made me so envious of guys overseas, esp. UK and USA who can buy these cars at such great prices.

The 850Ci that Hammond bought is an absolute beauty and it cost as much as the cheapest new car in the UK! Around 7000 pounds. Even with the low Rand it would cost around R100 000 if we convert the Pounds!

And, not forgetting the Merc CLK 500 which is just 7 years old for the same money!

I want an 8 series so badly! I can't wait to follow Topgear as they are going to assess what it costs to maintain these cars over the next few weeks!

To update this forum I though I would post the follwing,
I Have owned my 1997 for 5 years and am still loving it. (see pics)
I also had a 850CIi 1987 model back in the day, that reluctenly sold because of additions to the family. (not a good family car) ,anyway having owed both models I can say from experience that the 840CI is a very close second. much better gearbox and engine, better fuel consumpition and lighter frount end, very similar power output, especially using the tiptronic gearbox.
The best mod I have made on my car is a halogen headlight upgrade..
The nappa leather on the later models was a good addition.
The earlier 840's were not brought to south africa because the the unleaded fuel was not compatible with the older 840ci engine.
Any current owners that would like to contact me please feel free
