What i have noticed.... Trucks are holding everyone up on inclines (Midrand towards new road perfect example) and want to drive side by side. I hate to say it but they should ban trucks on highways during peak lol.
There are lots of "new" learner drivers on the roads. By the time they take off at a turn signal its already going yellow when they pass.
Uber drivers are on the phones driving 20km/hour with no care in the world on the backlog behind them.
Taxi drivers have not changed, they still drive how they want but are not recruiting other privileged drivers who think they can disobey the traffic laws as well. Its just a shit show really.

Then we have rainy days and all common sense goes out the window.

Im now investing in a good sound systems instead of go fast mods. Rather listen to some good music and watch the freak show. Pointless getting mad. Makes no difference.
The rail system has collapsed so badly that it almost feels deliberate. Gents, Just to close off this thread....

Long story short..... Offers on trade was very low....
I was shown a light stone report by a dealer that the car had an insurance claim for damage in 2023 before my ownership. It pushed dealers away from any deals being made.
I had the car fully inspected by BMW before i purchased and they found no signs of repair. No comments on motorplan.
Cant get info on the claim due to POPI act so its a guessing game.

Car drove amazing, handled amazing on and off the track. Really no signs of any accident.

I was at a point where i thought i would be stuck with this car for life or take a huge loss. Went back to the dealer i bought it from and explained the situation.
Long story short they came to the party to take back the vehicle and another deal was made.

Handed over the car last week.

I think this will become something more and more prevalent in the 2nd hand market. Guys hiding huge repairs off of motorplan due to contacts at dealers etc. etc. Sorry man, at least you came out ok.

Amazes me that you as the person holding this multi-million rand (or well mllion and a half rand) item is unable to get access to its history under the guise of POPIA... even redacted information would be useful to just see what was done... but dealers miraculously know it when trading in and not at sale. I just made a post the other day about exactly that.

Bottom line is there is no single source of truth for a car for us consumers - we need to rely on contacts in the trade or companies.

@TBP88 there is off motorplan and then totally off grid too where parts are ordered off someone else's VIN and repaired with no paper trail. It is the wild west.

It has become common practice for dealers to also claim that being held by a salvage yard doesn't mean it was damaged, it could have been a repo (SMD - now going out of business - and GoBid cases in point). Easy for paperwork to be modified and (you will all get tired of this AMG GT story soon) you can even have the records purged it seems.

Sorry bud.

I had a client buy a Porsche recently knowing there was an accident with "cosmetic" damage and paid a discounted price for it due to that. However when trying to trade in the dealer picked up it was an Auction Nation car previously written off with all airbags having popped :censored:

The repairs were done decently and car drove like new. Upon further digging we found the private seller seems to do this alot having at least 15 vehicles on his name that were bought from Auction Nation including Maybach's, an Urus, Bentley, a few G63's etc.

Got to be so careful these days.

I really miss @Coisman - a simple check with him would have picked up Auction Nation as a previous owner.

BUT the cause of this is also every other person that sees a small comment and a car and thinks OMG the sky is falling but will happily buy the above not using their eyes. I will gladly buy a car with a comment knowing what it is rather than a 'clean' car either waiting to paint me as a liar when the next owner gets a report with the 'real story' or with a rebuild/writeoff scenario.

When guys tell me they 'did stone chips' on cars or 'these cars like to pick up stone chips cos of the shape' its already double-waved yellows...

I agree with this sentiment 100%. If you're able to get the reason for the comments I don't think it should put you off. Karsh's M8 is currently the cheapest on Autotrader by some distance, and knowing it's come through his hands would certainly put a potential buyer at ease. But Llew is right. How many good cars get passed up because of comments, but they aren't revealed and the buyer moves on? A fair few I reckon. If you get the full picture (and there are dealerships who are open and honest) then it gives you better insight and eases the decision making process. It's like cars with high mileage. Some cars with 200k plus on the odo are in better condition than cars with half or a third of that mileage, all depending on the owner. Not always necessary to be scared of mileage.

With M Cars past 30000km or so you have to assume the prior owner has not done the 'in between' services that you should do for long term ownership. CBS intervals are such a sham. Recently ZF advised an 80K interval according to their guidelines for my F90 and BMW's official one is about double that (no doubt to get them off the hook even for most of the extended plan guys).

In general, exotic owners that tend to dispose of their cars just don't do the required maintenance annually but also pickle the car for 'future value' or whatever reason. Rubber doesn't go through cycles of 'outgassing' or fluid filled bushings don't actuate enough and degrade/dry out. These things get caned for the 500km they do in the 2 years they go between services but oxidation/varnishing happens and is a process that continues once it has begun. Coolant 'flocculates' and degrades over time too... various things on older cars like galvantic corrosion in the cooling system due to incorrect coolant or water used... but because the miles are low, the owner can't be bothered to waste money on a service.

If the car has a cambelt OMG you should see how willing multimillionaires are to play Russian roulette to avoid paying the cost. Many guys who say the 'manufacturer is being too conservative' or they are doing it 'by time' - my brothers in christ - is there any manufacturer that is 'too conservative' on things like this. If they could make it 6 or 10 or 12 years they would, in order to avoid doing it on their dime.

'Nice' cars tend to stay with their owners, hence (like with E60s) the market is full of cars that have at least SOME story.

Anyway back to repaired cars: I have sat in cars at BMW dealerships where I am convinced I can still smell the panel shop LOL. Low mileage, no comments of course.

I will also never buy a previously wrapped car again in my life... but that's another story.

Many years ago I had an incident in my first E63 M6, like you say, another story for another time. The car went to the ARC in Wynberg (can't remember what dealership it was affiliated to at the time), and the workshop manager said to me that 65% of the cars they get in the ARC are brand new, off the truck, and when they've gotten to the dealership, or driven off the truck, they have "incidents" in workshops, dealer parking lots and being taken off the truck. These are brand new cars, not registered, no MP active, straight from the docks/Rosslyn or wherever they came from. He said that they fix them, send them back, and they get sold as brand new, undamaged cars. That was an insightful conversation I had with him.
