Going aluminum on n57

Hey guys, been a while since I hopped on the forum.

I've been wondering n would really like to know if any of the bmw members went aluminum on few parts on their n57 n their experience

Aluminum oil filter housing
Aluminum flange pipe

in future if I have replace n it fails👇

Aluminum charge pipe
Aluminum boost pipe


The ofh n flange is from raza. The pipes will be from madness Motorsport (clive)

flange might be a worthy upgrade, not too sure on the oil filter housing unless its manufactured from a reputable company or has a proven history.

I own two n57`s and have not had to upgrade any of these.

When I replaced the flange on my N57 and N47, mech advised that the gasket on the aluminium ones tend to give up very quick so stuck to the plastic ones.

Okay will definitely consider going with the plastic maybe. But what about the ofh?

possible but the plastic flange is also prone to cracking, that said i changed mine as preventative at 120,000km with no issues

If the flange or ofh breaks, will i still be able to drive the car to the mechanic 🤣lol. I personally like to be safe but im just asking if (hypothetically) it cracks n breaks

Yes bud will have to change them routinely I think.

My N57 flange cracked while I was on Sani Pass

N47 changed as preventative before any issues.

They both will leave you on the side of the road unless you stop and top up every few kms depending on the severity of the leak.

Or you risk warping the head because the car overheats.... Better to park the car off and get flatbedded back to your mechanic but it's not always safe to just park on the side and wait

Alternatively what i can do is buy the aluminum ofh n flange but get bmw oem rubber seals n gaskets.

No.. I said that with regard to you wanting to carry on driving... You risk overheating the car and warping the head but as I also said, sometimes it's worth the risk because we live in south Africa, no car is losing one's life or living with the trauma of dealing with a hijack etc
