Found the E90 320d replacing the E82 120d

After a tiring week of chasing fuel efficiency and keeping my average speeds between 90–100 km/h, this is the estimated range I got after filling up. Absolutely insane. Reassuring to see that this is the kind of distance I can cover when driving frugally.

Anyone seen a higher range on a 20d?

The most I've seen in the 20d is 1250km. In general CBD traffic driving with very little highway driving I get 950-1000km on a tank.

It's a given , yes. 99% of my commute is open road with minimal traffic. Cpt traffic? We all know. Have you done the necessary deletes?

100%. If you still have an active EGR, I'd recommend an intake manifold clean. Mine was filled with carbon gunk because I only did the delete around the 200k km mark.

Update time

I posted about a rotten egg smell in the battery compartment a few days ago. It turned out to be hydrogen sulfide from the battery itself due to it being overcharged by the alternator.

New alternator fitted today and everything seems back to normal. Will still monitor the battery closely hoping it didn't take damage.

On another note. Whilst the alternator was removed, the technician had a chance to properly clean my intake manifold, throttle body etc. Was surprise at the amount of carbon and sludge in said parts.

The car is on 237 000km now and I deleted the egr around the 200 000km mark. So, carbon build-up most probably occured prior to that.

Other than that. No complaints, 320d all day.

The EGR delete is something I've questioned more deeply, after doing mine. I had it done at 185000km when I bought the vehicle.
We replaced the intake manifold gasket, which houses the swirl flaps, to make absolutely sure they're good as new, and cleaned the intake manifold.

Considering the cost of the delete (labour + software) is more than parts & labour to replace the swirl flaps and clean the manifold, I've questioned whether it's worth doing the delete.

Is it not better keeping it stock and just replacing the swirl flaps and cleaning the manifold every 200000km?

Update – 04/06/26

The F30 is sold, so the E90 is now racking up mileage a bit quicker than before. Not that I’m complaining though — I genuinely enjoy being behind the wheel of it.

Looks like I'm taking the E90 to well above 300 000km as my wife and I commited to tackling the bond in the next year or so.

She is still getting used to the hydraulic steering after all these years, but even she has commented that the E90 feels sharper and more direct than the F30 (non MSport)

After an extensive search for decently priced, quality runflats, I’ve decided to make a change I probably should have done a long time ago.

I’ve switched over to non-runflat tyres and replaced all four corners with Continental ContiSportContact 5 tyres.

In addition, my rear shocks were completely worn out. I’ve replaced both rear shock absorbers with Bilstein B4 units, along with new upper and lower shock mounts.

Car also had an oil service and the entire cooling system was flushed and refilled.

I’m looking forward to the drive home and will report back. I’m expecting a noticeably softer, quieter, and more refined ride overall.

Very interested to hear your feedback on this. I was contemplating the same change for a long time.

What is your solution in case of a puncture?

Some feedback

The cabin is noticeably quieter, especially at highway speeds, and the ride is more comfortable. Instead of crashing through bumps and road imperfections, it feels like the suspension can finally do its job and absorb them properly.

The front end also feels lighter and more eager to turn in. Runflats are about 3kg heavier per tyre.

Still firmness to the ride due to 18s and low profile tyres, but I do feel improvement.

Bought tyre sealant and repair kit coupled with an electric air compressor. Should cater for an emergecy.

I'm glad I ditched them runflats.

So glad that there are other N47 fans here that simply love being behind the wheel of these beauts. I can never understand all the horror reviews out there.

279k, still going strong, tuned, oil done every 6.5k, coolant with every 2nd service. Walking towards my E82 after a long day at the office still excites me! There's something extraordinarily satisfying about staying on top of maintenance.
