@Ga-3M , I will definitely try a 5w-40 next time - makes sense. Also thanks for the recommendation regarding Dale

@modocrat , from the recommendations on this thread, Peter seems to be the type of person I am looking for. Seems highly knowledgeable and well respected on this forum and that's important. Can you please DM me his contact details so that I can get more information around his location and services etc.

Thanks bud! I was actually giving the Z some love this weekend. Her rims were really neglected and was triggering my OCD so took a buffing wheel, drill and some metal polish and gave them a thrice-over :) Pretty happy with how they turned out. Still needs a few more passes.

Also, bought a ZHP weighted gearknob from BMW ( after seeing how many ZHP fakes are all over the place!). What a difference it made to the Getrag changes - it was sweet before with the fong kong gear knob but now its buttery smooth. Smooths out the notchiness

Last I made a clutch stop after seeing them online and adjusted it so that the clutch stops just past the give point. It took up all the dead space on the clutch and now can shift alot faster

Howsit bud, spotted your car in the skid pan post. She's looking mint.

I've attached some pics of the current rides
Good looking cars, Allways had a soft spot for the Z3, There is a red and a green one running around here close to me. On the Berkin, what setup you running there ?

Thanks bud. It was actually the Birkin that made me interested in a more "wife-friendly" roadster option like the Z3 :) But I have to say I am really falling in love with it....more than I actually thought I would. Its still an analogue sporty car without ECUs controlling everything and still fun to drive (read hand its butt out)...oh and that sound of the the straight six is magical. Personally speaking I think the Z3 aged very well and looks more like a modern classic now.

The Birkin's heart is a 2.0L Ford Zetec 16v ( twincam) with increased compression, Piper 285 cams, gas flowed and ported head, 40thou rebore with fully balanced bottom end, 2.5Kg lighter flywheel with 4 puk copper button clutch and MSD superconductor plug leads (8,5mm). Its still running twin weber 40 side draughts. My friends in the lotus club use to tell me to change to EFI but after running against it on the track and on the straights, I think they are considering changing to sidies lmao. Ive set them up myself using a hired dyno and they are running like a treat. With all the changes to make cars more electronic, I appreciate now more than ever the raw sound and feel of properly setup side-draughts

interesting powerplant, yes those sidies , tuner know how to tune them can make quick good power if sorted. I have a mate somewhere in Capetown that has one like this with a Superboss turbo setup.

I've seen a few with turbos but I cannot imagine owning or driving one like that. As it is, I battle for traction with semi slicks and this car has zero safety features except for a 4 point harness so its already more than enough to keep me honest especially on the twisty stuff.

Yes i can agree, saw video's of him driving it, it was a handfull in a straight line, not to mention in the twisty's.
