So this far I’ve spent

Turbo, wastegate, bov - 5k
Pipes bends, hoses, clamps, few things I didn’t use - 1k
Intercooler - 900
Catch Can - 500
Gauges - 500
O2 kit zeitronix - 4k opted in for the more expensive one for logging with smt8
Piggy back smt8 2.5k
Downpipe - 1.5k
Oil, coolant, filters - 1.5k
BMW Gaskets and replacement sump bolts - 700
Tools I didn’t have for the project 1k

Labor cost R0

Possible that I’ve missed a few hundreds here and there so add in another 1k for that, could have saved some money here and there but chose to spend a bit more to get the better parts

Originally I planned on spending round 20k on this build but think will need to increase by another 5k to get all the smaller things done including the dyno.

Think I started the project in September but couldn’t have spent more than 2 hours at a time working on it up until December, became extremely busy with work, in and out of town, then I blew a turbo on my daily, and then it was holiday season.

I’ve spent more time last week putting everything together compared to the past 3 months working on and off, guess will have to wait till it’s dyno’d to see if it’s worth the money spent

What I can say, it’s way more fun driving the car now,,, Stutututututu :smilebounce:

Had issue with the oil drain, due to the motor leaning to the side oil level was to high and had to move it to the front and is draining properly now.

Few more things have to add, will be doing it with the weeks to come, injectors for one can feel some starvation, wastgate opening to soon, need to make some adjustments and need to lower boost.

Will add a short clip shortly, iCloud sharing seems to be offline atm

Oh yes need to run new vacuum lines as well, will add proper pics when all the fine tuning is completed

Here’s the clip:

So many 'fanatics' throwing negative energy of "film it when it fails".
You guys should be ashamed of yourselves actually. If you know better than the OP, so be it. I am sure he has considered many things before undertaking this build (which is an ACTUAL build, not like of you whom are putting a CF bit on a car and calling it an update).

I say props to the OP for this build and I wish you the best with it with many happy and safe miles. And even if it does explode, it's okay. You will still hopefully have enough to do a decent swap onto another engine and do it better and stronger.

Yes, we may have experience in builds but please, before you hit "post reply" run it through your Cock-o-Meter and maybe dial down your negativity.

I for one hope to see you at the next hookup here with your car running sweetly!

People were giving him advice when he asked for it. He decided to go for it. There has been no negativity since he started. He seems to have been extremely lucky to find the parts he has for the prices posted and he has impressive welding and fabrication skills required to keep labour at zero (which are things that were not mentioned/clear initially.

Will be sure to stop posting useless cosmetic content or bolt on mechanical stuff unless it is an 'actual build' fitting hybrid turbos or 100K exhausts... or maybe it is only fabricating stuff from scratch or doing complete rebuilds that counts as an 'actual build' worth posting? :eek:mgwaiting:

Still keen to see this completed.

If I may.... And I don't wanna step on any toes.... But we all know it makes sense to go 335i route regardless. But who cares. Don't we all love a diy thread even if it goes kaboom

So nice to see unique builds. Seems like they are unfortunately becoming less and less. Don’t get me wrong 335i and 135i builds are cool but they are all very similar

Well done, I personally would have just bought a 335i and did a jb4 and downpipe combo , but that’s me and I can respect you going out there and doing something different , this definitely will be something unique
