As far as I know, this will just take it to 3.0? In other words, use the 330i crank, con-rods and pistons. You'll probably need to swap the injectors and MAF as well. I think the head on the 330i and 325i is exactly the same. I am talking about the M54B25 and M54B30. I might also be completely wrong.

Yes basically you are right except that the intake cam on the 325 will also need to be changed to a 330's cam and obviously the software.

But Im thinking this will be a good base as a starting point. Just want to find out how many people have done it locally and what gains they had.

the 3l crank has a vibration issue at 6000 rpm i would rather go 2.8l

also the only difference between the 2.8l and the 2.5l engines is the pistons, crank and rods...

the 3l got a new intake cam, larger intake piping and MAF so my guess is those parts will be restrictive if not changed when the engine is stroked out...

To make it a 3.0lt you need all these parts from a 330i/530i. Crank, rods, pistons, intake cam, intake manifold, injectors, throttle body, intake pipes, maf and upper section of airbox.
Unless you can get all of it for really cheap then you may as well buy a complete 330i motor.

BTW Bonerts in Benrose have a 3.0lt out of a X3, they want R20k for the whole motor but its missing its throttle body and one of the thermostat bolts mounting point is broken off, maybe they will strip the engine for that reason?

No offenceintended but I know what is needed etc but I just want to know if its worth the effort.
(I can get all what's needed for quiet a bit cheaper than a complete motor etc. Nice thing also is that there are no issues with changing the licence details etc)

Those are both inter esting ideas and maybe worth a try.

Reason I'm thinking stroker is everytime anyone asks about modding a 325i on this or any other forums they are shot down and told why don't you buy a 330 or M3 blah blah blah.....
I can tell you, its hard to find a clean one of either model and that is half the reason I'm thinking of modding what I have as I know what I have.

Or what about this?

The 325i motor is in my opinion a lot smoother than the 330i!

The 325i motor stroked to 3.0litres will give more power and torque , but can you get all the parts for say R10K ? What about labour ?

The supercharger is a good bet and can be removed if you sell the car .

Changing to a 330i cam - is the lift similar to the 325i cam ? You may have to machine the cam boxes for clearance .

Schrick cams ?? Availability and price ? You may get Van der Linde cams cut to Schrick specs .

A bit of homework on requirements / costs and availability should help you .

If your doing allot of track and gymkhana's then a super charger would be a great upgrade! power all the time for a once off fee! plus the car will sound awsome!
