Hey guys, a friend and i bought a e36 328i and our mechanic stripped the sump off.....We found metal shavings from the bearings in the oil..:thumbdo:
Bearings - big ends and mains are totally damaged. Therefore no option but to rebuild the motor at this stage.

Can anyone share some light where we can buy good internals for a good price for a e36 328i?
Or is the best option to build a 3.0L motor and what is all involved?

Howdy bud,

I am doing exactly the same thing at the moment, M52 single Vanos.

Spares are actually very cheap for it, and there is a fair amount of aftermarket stuff available.

I am using Wayne's motor world in boksburg for my spares. Cant remember the prices exacly, but pistons are like R300 each with rings, bigs are like R400 or something, bla bla bla..

I was thinking of rebuilding 325i M50 motor -same bore as 328i - pistons priced about R1300 each........in East London . Now I just start car to move so I can cut grass!!
If pistons are 1800 a set , bearings say 750 , engineering work 2000 and gaskets 1000 then not bad .Oil pump ,water pump , thermostat , top hoses also to be replaced if possible .

The pre 1997 328i's came with aluminum engines, how much would it cost to have the cylinders re-sleeved ?

Hey thanks man for the insight. Have you got a contact number for Wayne's motor world? How far are you with your rebuild? Are you keeping it 328i?

So as we progress further with stripping the motor to see what else is wrong with it, to our dismay  we find it's using a 325i block, pistons are damaged, pistons bored more than 86mm, oversized gasket, previous me-ken-niks were making their our sh^t :argh:

This is therefore leading us to look for another motor. Is there anyone that knows where i can buy a BMW Engine e36 328i or M3 motor? Hopefully these will be in good operating status with warranty..:fencelook:
