Right update time:
Since the off at the Z the e46 stood coolant-less for about 4 weeks, once I had got the parts from Mr. Axis (and some extra's parts). The car had to be moved to a more suitable workshop. That which could be replaced was replaced. Expect the low rad hose, the thermostat did not fit into the SWAG part, use the old part to get the car moved. Got a new low rad hose from BMW and continued striping the car. I had decided to replace as much as possible, as I could take 2 days of December leave to replace everything at my own pace(yeah right).
Replaced parts:
Low rad hose
Upper rad hose(the culprit that cause the off at the Z)
Hard lines underneath the the manifold
Flexible lines - cant recall if it was one or two
Expansion tank
Expansion tank cap
Thermostat o-ring
Radiation
Manifold gasket
The rad & expansion tank was replaced a month or so after the rest, cause I was not sure which one of the two of even if both was leaking.
Additionally to the cooling, I did the Vanos seals (PS. don't do this when you are in a foul mood after struggling with a cooling system that once connected shows new leaks, just so you can drain it again to replace more parts) I managed to snap one seal and then once I got a new set, snapped another. Fortunately, Sean & Peter where able to help get the e46 moving again. After the second one snapped, Peter offered to do the seals for me and I would then do the assembly work. Thank you for the support and help guys, much appreciated.
All and all I spent 6 days full days getting the car rolling again. This was due to, more and more leaks showing up which meant sourcing more parts and like a chop breaking the seals and not thinking. I guess frustration got the better of me that week.
Roll on a few months and the car is going so well, I am loving it again.
On the too do list is is get the wheels fixed(straighten) it has small annoying vibration & to replace the warped front disks - take your car to the track it will be fun-
PS. - if anyone is keep I want go to the track again some time soon.
Some pics of the "struggle" & others
Alternator cooling duct got chowed by the belt, the duct is now being held in place with some cable ties, and some insulation tape to cover the hole.
Broken upper rad hose
Manifold out, so the hard lines can be replaced
One of the hard lines broke off inside the seating position
The piece that broke off was very brittle and came out in small pieces
Coolant pipe cancer
Vanos things
I have also concocted a Bluetooth system for the e46. Ordered a aux cable of bidorbuy which gets plugged in where the cd changer is plugged in. Connected it all up and then connect the 3.5mm to a Samsung level link. All the cables are inside the dash and pop out by the vent. There is bit of line noise when there is no sound playing, I will shorten the cable setup to get rid of that. I am very pleased with the results. I can also take phone calls via the car audio as the Level link has a mic. Test phone calls confirmed people can hear me as well.
What the final result looks like.

On the KTM side, it had little bit of an "stumble". Gearbox failure fortunately KTM picked up the bill on that, cause warranty. Had to use the e46 to get to work and back for 5 weeks.
I have decided to try and get it to look a bit more street fighter and to simplify my riding to work, i.e. travel lighter with less clutter. Only a backpack and the tank bag. I managed to get a complete tail set from a demo model 390 Duke, this way I can still keep the original parts my 390 came with. The tail end of the bike will be cut and reworked to make it much much shorter. The big problem with this is that the a tail end of the chassis sticks out the rear. After a a beer or two and some 390 rear end staring, I realized this is a naked bike the frame must be visible! I will (time allowing) CAD up some new rear parts to cover the exposed bottom of the tail in conjunction with the existing cut pieces. A custom number plate holder will then be bolted to the frame and it should finish off the bare chassis bit nicely. The rear indicators mounting points will now be non-existent, I have some waterproof amber LED strips which I will stick on once I have the other parts completed.
Part of the "conversion" is to replace the "bunny ear" rear view mirrors with bar end mirrors. I am very happy with the results, really makes it look much more aggressive, also half the mirror is not filled with my shoulders, better visibly is a plus as well. You can see in the pics below that I also got hold of second hand set op lever guards of a Super Duke.

And then lastly the fiancées T1 Yaris was stolen a few weeks back, fortunately it was done in a parking lot and she was not near the car. Being a first car that she had kept for 10 years (only had 100k on clock) she was very upset and to add to the pain it was just had a major service. She used the the e46 for 2/3 weeks and fell in love with it (her words). After looking at countless hatches backs and new turbo cars(still not a turbo fan), she decided she wants "a white BMW with a big engine"(her words again). We found her a steptronic 2011 e82 125i alpine white with 28k on the clock. Car feels really tight and smooth.
Thank you to Cois and John for your helping in checking out not just this car but all the others as well.
She also said does not want do any mods but has already asked what it will cost to get carbon "wing" and to change the yellow angel eyes to white.
