Hi Guys

Woke up to this sound yesterday, tried to drive out of my drive way and the power steering lost its power, called my mech and sent him this video, he looked at it today, said its a pulley, R14k to replace, just the part, from BMW, does not recommend a generic to be used, does this sound right? 14k?

330d, E90, 2010 model 175k on the clock

Thanks guys, any advice will be highly appreciated

That price is correct, my brother had his pulley go bad in December and had to fork out over 14k. Obviously bolts need to be replaced as well. Only upside was i did the job for free...

Hi

Sounds correct, please do the damper pulley, tensioner, idler pulley and V belt with new bolts in one go. I know it is a big spend, but not doing all of it will make you fork out a lot of cash again.

Try and stick to OEM, I know about a lot of aftermarket pulleys that failed and that can cause more damage.

I agree withM3boi, the Cortego dampener is very good, have used them many times. Also have used the original bolts, just put some locktite on them. But that is just me.

What would all that cost??? Does it have to be done? Please excuse my ignorance, I'm not all that mechanically inclined.

Hi

Where are you based?

I do not have many connections with Independent workshops. I have been burned way too many times.

All the work that needs to be done on my car, I do at the dealership. I love the 2 Year unlimited warranty on repairs.

Maybe somebody can refer you to a good workshop. I would also call a dealership or 3 to get quotes on the repair.

Just my 2c

To replace the dampener pulley is not such a big job if yours has the pulley with the four small torx bolts, then it is quite easy. If it has the one big bolt then you need some one with a heavy duty torque wrench to do the job as i have seen a guy break his normal torque wrench trying to tighten the big bolt. It should be torqued to 300Nm or something in that region, way above what normal torque wrenches are able. But the four torx bolt pulley is easy. Pity George is so far as i would have been able to give you a hand. I am in CT.
