Congrats on the car.

Quite a bit to be done and quite a bit already has been done.
I assume price wise it was worth while considering all that needed attention vs finding one which was in alright condition to begin with?

Thanks bud, yeah got it for below trade value to be honest.

1 owner vehicle with full history.

Pity the owner wasn't a fanatic but none the less, still in decent nick.

Haven't seen many 330d lci m sport in blue water metallic :)

Everytime, night and day difference and no annoying vvt nonsense.

....and the torque (drool) even with traction control on she likes getting loose at the back.

But thanks bud, looking forward to this venture...

Seen some cool things that can be done on this engine....heard one guy installed X5 50d injectors (bigger CC?), then in the UK, dark side developments and their monster m57 build. Then you got Danny and madness motorsports putting in hybrid turbos, meth, etc. List goes on

Long overdue gents.....life got in the way. But I've got abit of time now to sort my baby out

Going to do a deep clean on the engine bay, pull the engine and gearbox and do a full gasket refresh where needed, piping, new radiator , etc.

Could anyone recommend a good place to get proper intercooler and full alu radiators?

Nice progress and I'm glad you're taking the time to clean the engine properly, nothing triggers my ocd more than a dirty engine bay.

Too many people just mod the car, polish and detail the exterior of the car and then you open the engine bay and it looks like a dogs breakfast!

Keep the updates coming though it looks like you are taking things to the next level in this restoration.

Slowly stripping the dirt.

Need some opinions here.....I'm thinking of doing the timing chain aswell, seeing as the motor is out....has 170k kms on the clock. What do you guys think?

Expect for that, going to get the turbo recon'd, any advice on where's the best place to take it, or maybe upgrade the core ?

Going to send the exhaust headers in for Ceramic coating, wrap the top section of the downpipe.

Potentially a turbo blanket ?

Going to replace sump gasket, check the oil level sensor....

Replace tappet cover gasket, injector seals, intake manifold gaskets, oil cooler gasket, boost seals.

FINALLY do the swirl flap delete.

Install the external catch can

List goes on ;)

Any resellers that's got an upgraded aftermarket intercooler ?

Since the engine is out and the mileage is that high i would rather do the chain before sticking it back. saves on the labour costs of doing the same job twice.

Turbo - Speak to Gaby at Fastec, otherwise let me know and i can assist you with that

I would replace as much as I can while the motor is out... Then you know you dont have to worry about something you may have skipped.

Hi there guys, need some help here....i'm struggling to source a replacement crank pulley for the N57, I could get an OEM one for R6.5k just a few days ago as it was on special and now all of a sudden the special is over...now its R12k

Sooooo....any one know where I could get this tool kit.

Got a glow plug tip broken off :/

On the plus side, all 6x injectors came out perfectly.

Anyone know if one could soak these injectors or should the shafts of the injectors just be cleaned up and put back as is?

awwwwww man you making me want to remove my entire engine to clean the engine bay in places I can't reach with the engine in there and clean the engine and polish the entire thing with the dremel even!

The progress is so awesome and lots of awesome photos.

I can 1000000000000000000000% recommend Gabby at Fastec. That guy is the turbo god in SA, and such a great guy to deal with!
Nice work with the headers! Man this is such an awesome thread so far! well done so far. I miss stuff like this on the forums!

Works getting in the way a bit....Small update gents,

Managed to remove the sump and seperate the gearbox.....what a mission

So ja, the gasket has been leaking for some time

Next up.....do the timing chain replacement

(I see the kit didn't come with the sprocket...but will assess when the time comes)

Then oil cooler gasket, oil filter housing, Thermostat, water pump, harmonic pulley, aux pulleys, new vacuum lines, tappet cover gasket, sump gasket, 5 of the 6 glow plugs (got the special tool coming in two weeks to remove that annoying broken glow plug tip)

Any advice on whether I should replace all 6, test them or just get a replacement for the one and see what happens ?

Overall very happy with the internal condition, zero sludge or oil bake. Just beautiful shiny aluminum :)

Also, big thanks to Goldwagen Fourways for the support and proper fanatics discounts ;)
(Went to get some replacement engine mounts and by the time I left, I got a bottle of Ceratec for FREE)

Thanks bud....I hope it's going to last another 200k kms at least

Sooo.... she's back in FINALLY!

I need to finalize a few things here and there, start putting the liquids in where needed, bleed the system and see what happens :)

P.s. upgraded the heat/sound deadening in the transmission tunnel and hood !
