Congrats on the new wheels.

Thanks for the detailed post, always enjoyable to read these. Keen to see how the journey progresses, as well as all the parts shopping to restore it to fantastic shape.

This is a keeper! such an amazing example.
I recently had the privilege of going for a drive in a 2002 E39 M5, was my first time being in one and boy was i impressed , for a 23+ year old car it was smooth and quite a brute. that V8 even without an exhaust sounds bliss.
understated in appearance but so special if you know what you looking at.
such a pretty car and one of those timeless designs , absolutely adore it.
Congratulations!

absolutely brilliant car man.... I am currently restoring a 2000 model car and yip! e39 source is the go to for all things M5, I have literally watched every single video and even the ones not about the E39. I am jealous about your bluebus and braided cables. do you mind if I PM on those. I definitely need them. also please let me know when you source the gear knob. I was thinking of doing the e60 m5 short shift kit. same on the tires, also ended up getting the bridgestones, I haven't driven the car yet with them on, I am still working on it.. already +100k in parts.. this is a minter man.. I was at the Beemer fest in JHB yesterday. massive m turn out but whole show there was 1 e39, they getting very rare to find and spot.. keeper!!!

Right? I had the same experience as well...you can really under-estimate these beasts for sure and they still pack a decent bunch after all these years! And the sound! WOW!!!

I heard had the privilege of seeing @MoeM2's M5...and when he started it up, goose bump worthy exhaust notes!

Thanks for all the comments, everyone! :) It's good to be back with a proper project, albeit a daunting one. I am hopeful that this one will turn out well like my previous projects. One never knows, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.
