How dark is the windscreen tint?
Is it legal?

I tinted just the top edge of my car's windscreen.

Small update.

The original 320d badges were painted gloss black when I had the wheels refurbed but the task of adding 2 way tape to each number/letter to refit required more time than I had.

Went the easy route and ordered a badge from @FiRi@Rennzport a while back and finally had some time to fit it:

Had the old badge glue residue left behind so I can get the location right whenever doing it:

Masked the location and removed the glue residue:

New badge fitted:

Some customary morning pics after a mod....no matter how small 😅

Looks good. How is she keeping up, mechanically? It's been 7 years, right?

An absolute dream mechanically bud.

Correct, got the car in 2017 and going to keep it until the wheels fall off :ROFLMAO:

What I have done thus far:

Oil services every 7500kms
Other filters as due
Coolant and brake fluid flushes from time to time
Gearbox serviced - really cheap on the manual (around R1500)
Brake discs and pads (Oem parts)
2 x Wheel speed sensors (Febi from GW)

To do:
Vibration damper
Suspension refresh
BC Coilovers that I purchased years ago and haven't fitted yet
Clutch replacement when needed (purchased this years ago as well and have kept)

I'm with you on that. You buy a 320d, you marry a 320d😅.

On the manual, what's rpm @ 120km/h? Haven't had the chance to drive a manual diesel 20d/30d yet. I'm sure first gear is non-existant?

Sorry @DRCraig I completely missed this post. Will check the rpm and revert.

With regards to first gear, if driving hard/launching then yes revs up pretty fast and have to change up quickly, but other than that I use first gear often in traffic/daily driving.

Overall the manual is probably not as quick but definitely lighter on fuel than the ZF8 auto. Also much more reliable with less things that can go wrong and cheaper to maintain.....a transmission service at ZF cost me R1500.

This is interesting, I recall ZF bragging that the ZF8 was one of the first auto boxes which was lighter on fuel than a manual?

I could be wrong, although chances are it is under certain conditions and compared to a 5 speed manual or something along those lines.

Checked around 1900rpm at 120km/h bud.

I see even Google claims the ZF8 is more economical but real world the manual is lighter. My uncle that I purchased my car from had both mine and an auto F30 320d simultaneously and the manual was always better on fuel. Even on trips from Durban to Jhb the manual would be at least 0.5 to 1L/100km lighter.

On the sound side I had a Sony 4 channel amplifying all the stock speakers and a 12inch Kenwood sub in a band pass enclosure. This was a great improvement over stock.

Then some years back I had purchased a complete Vibe Audio system from a forum member for a great price.

List of items:

1. Vibe Optisound 8inch BMW8 -V4 underseat subwoofers x 2
2. Vibe Powerbox 80.4 4 channel amp
3. Vibe Powerbox 400.1 m -V7 monoblock amp
4.Vibe CLRCA2 M1FB -V7 splitters x2
5.Vibe Slick 4 -V7 CoAxial x 4 door speakers

Pics from the ad:

A friend also shared a Marketplace ad of some HK Tweeters with pods from a 4 series which I also purchased.

A pic with all of the items:

In order to fit the Tweeters I also needed the below trim which I got from BMW. I ended up buying the HiFi trims instead of the HK ones as there was a significant price difference.

I chose East End Customs to install for me and the service received from Rowan was excellent.

All of the above was fitted and he utilized the little Vibe monoblock amp to run my existing 12inch sub.

Overall was very happy with how it sounded until one of the front door 4inch Vibe speakers popped (probably from being stored for too long).

I had the fronts replaced with Kicker 5.25inch CS instead and it now sounds even better.

Something I need to look at and I would like some advice from members on is the best way to get bass from the trunk into the cabin. Options would be:

1. Cutting the skihole
2. Cutting the backboard

Not sure which is easier or if there are any other options.

Bass is pretty good at the moment with the band pass enclosure but could be better with an opening to the cabin.

I feel cutting the skihole to be the better option here, unless you can find one which has a ski pass or 40/20/40 fold down rear seats.

If you are doing this, consider changing your sub setup to an Infinite Baffle though. The boot becomes the enclosure, the response is generally flatter as well.
I feel BMW sedans are perfect for an Infinite Baffle sub install, I did this in my 320d with a 15" RCF driver and it was great.
