I want to buy a 2nd hand BMW for under 125k what are my best options.

I would really like to get an automatic BMW for under 125k I just dont quite know it all when it comes to the car world as of yet I really do like the 320d as one of the options and I've heard really good things about the car. I'd just like some opinions from others with more experience and suggestions for what car would be the most optimal and reliable for me to get.

Hi I appreciate the response but I was looking for something maybe 2012/2013 or newer preferably with less mileage. However I do appreciate the response
Newer with less mileage for that budget?
Unfortunately I feel you will need to up your budget if you want newer and less mileage.

Finding an automatic F30 320d for R125k will be a bit of a challenge, for that price the mileage will likely be over 200k KM or it will be sold by a dodgy dealer and likely be a vehicle which was previously in an accident, repaired and is now for sale.

For that budget the E90 320d is a good option I feel. I would not recommend the 16i, 18i, 20i, 28i from the f30 range prior to the facelift when they switched over to the "B" engines. The N13 & N20 are not the most reliable engines and have multiple known issues.

With that budget in mind, an older BMW without any turbo charger (if you want to go petrol) otherwise a 20d from one of the E series is probably your best bet. It won't meet your year and mileage hopes though.

EDIT: A whopping 11 BMW's for sale on cars.co.za with under 125 000KM and priced upto R125k.

Look at the F30 320i , you may find them within that price range (2012….)

Thank you for the help. I've seen loads off of Facebook marketplace and certain car selling websites I will continue looking around however but I appreciate the advise immensely

Would you be able to make me other suggestions it doesn't necessarily have to be a BMW but for that price range that looks good and is a little fast.

What do you want to do with the car? What kind of commute do you have? What is your current car that is a frame of reference for what 'a little fast' is?

You will definitely have to look into the past in order to get a car in that price range that won't bankrupt you with repairs and hidden damage etc.

If you want something newer with some fun-to-drive DNA, look at a non-CVT Honda (you will also have to go quite far back to find this) or Suzuki Swift Sport (or similar). What does reliability mean to you? Are you happier to spend on loads of small repairs or have something rock solid, but then when something breaks its a 30K fix?

What kind of mileage will you be doing daily? How old are you?Looking to buy cash or finance?
Daily mileage will vary because I just finished school it won't be too far very often however I mean max in a day would be under 70km mostly and daily average would be like 30 max usually. Just finished school and I am 18 years old. Looking to buy the car cash

It'll be my first car to be entirely honest with you. A little fast would be about 0 to 100 in around 7 seconds or less to be honest something that's got a bit of torque you know. Decently comfortable hopefully I am a bit on the taller end I am 192cm so I know not all cars are made for me and there's a few I've been in that are too small as I have a long torso. Repair prices are not necessarily too much of a hassle for me I'd just prefer something reliable that won't be in for repairs all the time. Also hopefully something that seems modern that's automatic and looks nice on the outside is what I'm hoping for. Thank you very much for the help

Frankly I would get a well looked after 80 series landcruiser...versatile, reliable, pretty cheap to maintain and the mileage you'll drive means the consumption won't kill you. Also, plenty cool factor.

You're young and the car you have in mind won't let you go and do fun stuff, unless your idea of fun is throwing donuts into pavements ;)

I appreciate the advice however it's not really my style to be honest I don't love the look of them for me personally but I do completely get the attraction. I like something quick and sporty looking thats decently fast aswell. Thank you so much though, once again I do appreciate the advice.

Whilst I definitely understand the appeal of a BMW as your first car, the unfortunate reality is that you will likely not find a decent low mileage E90 320D, let alone a decent F30 within that price range. You might be able to find a fairly decent N/A variant within budget, however, ownership might also be a risk, given that this will also be your first car with limited experience.

I strongly recommend reading the following thread as guidance:
