Welcome Jan B! Enjoy your 135i, they are great cars, as mentioned above maintenance above all else.

Have you run diagnostics on the car to check for error codes? Cold point to any short circuits or the cause of it not starting.

I've checked but there are no faults, Even with the new battery it's still not starting. So it's something else.

and then just to put a cherry on top the radiator exploded in traffic just now.
Starting to think this was a terrible idea...

Sorry about the radiator bud however I still think you need to revert the car to back to stock.

Run the standard maintenance

Oil, oil filter
Air filter
Plugs (coils as well if budget allows)

Address any other leaks, gaskets etc

In this case you would do coolant as well with the radiator replacement. (Assuming the waterpump and thermostat is ok)

You could look at getting mhd and run logs on the vehicle.

Logs would also help in checking the vehicles general running health status. Dont forget to also have all codes read..hopefully you find the cause for the starter issue.

All the best

Thanks guys, The car is stock the piggyback has been removed and as for the faults it's only giving catalytic fault and vanos fault.

as for the starter you can hear the solenoid kicking but it's as if the starter motor doesn't have enough to start the engine. Usually if you jump it with another battery the car starts.

I've replaced starter and battery with oem units, Changed the filters and oils.

any advice would be appreciated.

Don't forget to register the new battery to the car if it hasn't been done already. Possibly the clutch switch as mentioned but if the car starts with another battery jumping it i doubt it's that.

So I think I might have found the issue, this cable is damaged.

I once had the junction box cable issue on my e90, car would vary from having zero electrical power (would have to manually open the car) to suddenly shuddering and dying mid-drive. There was a recall for this, had it replaced by dealer at no-cost. I think various E series models were affected. Car didn't miss a beat after that.

So swapped the cable out and it seems to start alot easier and everytime. Can't drive it yet as I'm getting a new radiator made up and can hopefully copy the dimensions of the csf upgrade one.

on another note I came across a set of Blacklines and couldn't say no.

Changed out the radiator and coolant, Car seems to run better now. It also starts every-time so far.
Next up is seeing why I'm getting random Vanos errors and trying to clear that up.

man when this car runs it's so nice to drive.

So seems the Vanos issue is better after reloading a new ecu version so I think its a calibration issue. Also found the vacuum hose leading to the actuator had a split in it. It would be modest to say that holy moly this thing moves now.

Made 230wkw and 510nm and then the clutch started slipping at around 4200 rpm. Think its safe to say I have to replace that with the 330D clutch and go back and see what it will do.

Need to also take my dash out to get the evaporator out, Anyone done this before?

use lots of felt tape, zip lock bags, take photos....check 1addicts if there's a diy on removing the evaporator or getting through the dash

This thing sounds like my car, hang in there it will get better as you maintain it but it is going to break the bank LOL

All as I can say, do it properly the first time it is the cheaper way.

good luck

So I got a recalibration done on the vanos but still no luck, I think it's time to just send the car to someone that knows how to sort this out. And while it's there change the clutch and do rear main seal, Any suggested workshops?

Ive always heard good things about Tune Tech?

Went to a mate's shoo today and it was a good E82 day.

Got the eccentric shaft and motor replaced, And also the clutch and rear main seal.

Car feels like its quite a bit lighter on fuel but I cant punch it yet as I have to bed in the clutch. Also added a BMS intake and cowl filters to the mix.

Next up will probably be this aircon and I want to do the braided brake lines I got along with rod bearings and a sump baffle.

After some fault finding it appears my N75 boost solonoid has seen better days. Replace that and the car is making power alot smoother than before.

Landed a good deal on a coolboost V3 setup so I added that also. Definitely helps alot with heat soak.

Then lastly fitted the braided lines and some Motul RBF700 fluid.

Next up is H&R springs and trying to find a good intercooler and EWG turbo.

Some pics for fun.

Let's see some pics of the intake :)

Great upgrades but glad you found most of the issues.

Can I ask though, did your car have any idle issues...or basically stutters on idle due to this solenoid being vrot?
