Hello Guys,

I'm new to the BMW world and this is my first experience with owning one.

She is a 2010 N55 Manual in Alpine white with a few options.

Apart from a plug n play it's stock, I need to tackle a few maintenance items before feeling the car will handle modifications.

Congrats on the new car, she is looking tops.
How are you enjoying her thus far, although its only been a few days now?

What maintenance items are you looking at doing?

Thanks guy, Took her out the weekend and some issues arose. But man the 6Cyl is just so much nicer than previously owning 4Cyl cars.

As for maintenance I need to do the following.

1. The starter acts up at random times and then she refuses to start.
2. Rear main or sump gasket has a leak.
3. Getting Random Vanos error but I think its due to old oil, The car sat for a few months.
4. I dont trust this plug n play so I want to remove it and get a file loaded.

The car is going in next week for all of the above and im also doing Downpipe and midpipe to unleash some more noise.

Next up is probably the BMS oil cooler valve and pollen filters and hopefully a diff brace.

Howsit bud, congrats on the new ride.

My recommendation to you would be, revert the car back to stock... carry out all the maintenance required. Once that is all done and the car is running happy, then slowly start with the mods again.

Ive had both n54 and the n55 and I can tell you, maintenance is priority above all else. These cars are extremely fun and rewarding to own!

All the best

The starting issue might be battery related depending how old that battery is. The BMW batteries tend to last quite long. I just replace the battery on my 330i, the original battery gave up after 10 years of service.

Check oil filter housing gaskets, and tappet cover for leaks. There is a coolant hose going into the oil filter housing that is a common breaking point if it hasn't been replaced maybe replace that. Downpipe alone will unleash the sound especially if you have mperf exhaust so not sure if the mid pipe is necessary unless maybe you going after a specific tone. The BMS oil sport cooler valve is a must, I don't think in stock form you would need the diff brace just yet. Rather spend it doing more fluid changes since the car was sitting for a few months. Then of course the charge pipe change is a must

Guys any ideas where I can get a 13 tooth starter all the places say my car should have a 9 tooth but the Denso one that comes out of it has 13 teeth.

So a small update.

Changed out the starter and the car kept on not wanting to start, Took out the plug n play and changed the battery to an OEM unit. Really hoping to find the gremlin causing this issue.
