Wow, a whole year has passed since I last posted here. “No news is good news” has never been truer.
The year in review:
Just passed 80,000 km last week (I don’t even know where the mileage is going 😂😂😂). Nothing eventful has happened except the occasional “gong” due to low fuel. The lifetime consumption is on 8.6 l / 100 km which is testimony to the soft life this car is having.
I took the car on a “long” trip in March. I went up to Knysna for some time off and the cars was a beauty to drive. All I needed was to engage sports mode and the rest just falls into place; amusing acceleration, easy overtakes, and satisfying downshifts on braking. The downshifts are by far my favourite thing on the car. Needless to say, I collected about 3 speeding tickets for that trip. It’s a scam though, those 60, 70 and 80 km/h zones are a joke.
There was a mini van that I couldn’t shake off. The little bugger matched my every move for a good 100 km or so. I still have PTSD of him in my rearview mirrors (must have been a Renault or Opel).
CBS, CBS, CBS:
I have now entered into a relationship with CBS. The car is in for a “non-CBS” service today. My last service was 10,000 km ago so this is my second of “non-CBS”. CBS is saying I still have another 10,000 km to go but I am uneasy with this as it keeps increasing every few thousand kms.
I told them to do everything that is due in 10,000 km which includes engine oil + related filters, spark plugs, micro filter and air filter. However, I find myself wondering if this is the right approach:
1. What do the other folks do?
2. Do I only limit the out of CBS services to oil + oil filter changes or I do everything as I just did now?
ZF
Should I consider a ZF service now? @Salt, what have you done with your car? I am on 80,000 km and I am wondering if it’s the right window to have ZF look at the gearbox.
Your fuel consumption is insanely low. Drive the car! lol
As for servicing, there is no harm in replacing all of that every 10k km. Spark plugs is the one which has me wondering though and you could probably look at a longer interval for replacing them.
Air filter & pollen filter, would really depend on the conditions you have been driving in. They are rather inexpensive so I like to replace them every 10k to 15k km.
ZF gearbox service is best to do now, 80 000km is the perfect mileage for the first service. Consider doing the diff oil at the same time, ZF can do this for you if you supply the oil (I went with BMW diff oil).
