The replacement M62 shaped headache

I have heard so many RR horror stories...I keep telling myself that is is the "simple" early BMW version with very little to go wrong except for air suspension, electronics, timing chain, vanos, gearbox etc etc :ROFLMAO: fingers crossed...A set of rear shocks are about 12k which I will get to...eventually...

I fit the later chrome steering wheel spokes to replace my horrid peeling black spokes...much better

I have so far done about 400km since fixing the gearbox and I have not had a single bing! Fuel consumption on the open road is about 13L/100 which is less than ideal, but quite manageable. I love/hate that there is no instantaneous fuel consumption readout on the dash like similar BMWs, but I suppose that is poor mentality. Only peasants keep their eye on trivialities like fuel consumption.

This car keeps throwing pleasant surprises at me...for example, water beads off the paint and it does not need new wipers. These are small things that are firsts for me...I must be getting better at making poor decisions...
Hi @Benji. Is it for sale? 🤣

I always wanted one, but my 2 sacks aren't as big as yours 🤪

Safe travels brotherman.

I heard that the worst public road in South Africa is about an hours drive away, so naturally had to take the Ranger Rover on its first proper adventure over Breedtsnek pass. The road was indeed terrible but the Range Rover hardly noticed, this car is fantastic offroad and simply plods on over seemingly impassable obstacles. These early L322s did not have terrain response, but the traction control quickly brakes a slipping wheel which means you keep your momentum.

As for the road, it is quite terrible indeed with some extremely rocky sections which find you saying prayers to the tire gods. There is also a nice brewery on the bottom of the mountain to reward you for your airconditioned drive. Otherwise, nothing else to report, the Rage Rover is as refined and thirsty as ever

Amazing bud glad to see you enjoying the full capability of it already!

Would you say this has been your best car buy to date?

Provided the car doesnt implode, I would say yes, without a shadow of doubt. I could probably sell it for 3 times what I bought it for, but I dont think I could get rid of her now. As a slightly surprising bonus, she fits in my garage, she is about the same length as the E39.

I am enjoying how the Range Rover makes you get out and do things, the approving nods you get from balding men in their lifted double cabs and the general air of invincibility you get from driving a block of flats.
