This past Saturday, BMWFanatics was invited to the launch of the new BMW X4 at Zambesi Auto. The dealership needs no intro, as its one the biggest and most well stocked dealerships in SA. Those of us invited, had the chance to view and test the new x4 as well as time to scout the dealership and salivate over the M section.
The new X4 is definitely an improvement over the older generation’s design which immediately reflects a more coupe look within an SUV. The vehicle is spacious on the inside with enough headroom and space around you as the driver, yet still providing a sporty feel, especially considering this vehicle is more compact then the X5. The specific vehicle on the day was a Msport with leather interior, blue detailed stitching on the seats and around the floor mats. The attention to detail of the interior and cockpit provides a complete new feel of this generation X4 which a step in the right direction. The X4 logo embossed into certain portions of the cabin, give you an idea that BMW is realizing the small things matter to some and we for one, absolutely loving the styling ques on the interior.
The sharp angles for the front headlights and the bumper give it a more aggressive look, whilst not being over the top and one can only imagine what is in store for the X4M that is to be released shortly. The Sporty look continues to flow onto the rear quarter panels where the rear window slopes down at a steep angle. The Roof spoiler add a nice touch and completes the look by adding that little extra flair and the 20inch mags provide you with a complete package that looks stunning in the flesh.
On the day the BMWExperienced team was present, providing customers with a gymkhana experience of the new BMW X4. The model used was the X-drive 20d. After driving the laid out course, it is almost evident that when inside, you do not feel how much of a big vehicle you are actually driving. The lightweight construction with a low center of gravity enables good stability though the turns. The only time it kicks in that you are driving a large vehicle is the point of reaching tight turning spaces, however the light steering makes it a lot easier even with 20” wheels. For a large SUV, the 20d truly impressed as due to the torque, it makes acceleration from standstill less of a struggle.
A big thank you to Zambezi Auto for being excellent hosts on the day and providing us with the opportunity to join in on the experience.
