Meh, you were OK i guess Andre :fishwack:
Was a great day and great driving:bravo:

Did you beat him Andre :)

On the flight to cape town yesterday (as passenger) a guy was sitting next to me with verbal diarrhea and when it came to cars he insisted that the STi is quicker around the nurburgring than the M3. I told him fat chance of that stock for stock. He continued to try convince me subaru is better than BMW.

He failed.

Well done Mr H. I want to start doing these. This is where the car shines :)

Haha! No, Andy. I think he got the fastest time. BUT.. Stock for stock? IN THEIR DREAMS!:rollsmile:

Uhm.. Now to find a stock STi.. Guess i'm safe, hey!

It looks tricky to memorise. And it's just too long for 1st gear only I see.

Well spotted! You're right. But this was not a real gymkhana, IMO. Gymkhana should have a reasonable tricky course and at least a few 360's and 180's in there. Otherwise it is just a mini version of an autocross. The fastest car shouldn't necessarily always be the winner. Diff and handbrake more important.. :=):

@Andy1GP, the guy on the plane seems to know what he is talking about... pffft M3's are easy pickings :roflol::fencelook:

@Andre I think next event we must make a plan... we both use your car for a course, then we both use mine:rollsmile::thumbs:

LOL but then I asked him, which car would you take home to your family? Then he would keep telling me about wet cornering etc.. "Do you drive like that to work?" The conversation was long and tiring...

But this is also true! This doesn't necessarily mean driving in the rain, it is so epic it makes the passengers wet when cornering :roflol:

Well done Andrè! :bravo:
You show them how a gymkhana should be driven, no understeer or inside front wheel spinning there.

@Andy - The dude on the plane has no friggin' idea what he's talking about.

Tx, Morné! But deep in his heart Racerboy is a closet BMW fan. He just wanna drive my car..The only thing he would probably miss if he gets a BMW, is the engine rebuilds!! Just kidding, Carl! For a Subaru owner you are quite an acceptable person.. Boepens an' all!!:rollsmile:

I've never driven an STi in anger. So I can't comment. I would love to try it out on a gymmie, though!

Gymkhana at the Rock Raceway this past weekend.. Link:

Is that hand-break turns you're doing or just gearing down to let the car slide (it looks to me like hand-brake) - but isn't the BMW hand-break seperate brake-discs / pads that cannot lock up the rear wheels like that?

It's hand brake, yes. It IS separate and it CAN lock up! And quite properly so! You can use gearing down at higher speeds but if you are in first, reverse is not an option! So, hand brake does the trick most of the times.:thumbs:

I tried some hand-brake turns on a dirt road when I first got my E46 320d - and I could not get the rears to lock up... maybe it was worn or not adjusted properly then?

My new car is an auto - anyone ever done a hand-brake turn with an auto? How does it feel?

I would not recommend that!! The handbrake is then directly in conflict with the engine and 'box. You really need a clutch to disengage the driven wheels..:nonono:
