Replacement Discs and Pads

I also had my X3's discs and pads replaced last week due to a very slight shudder when braking. It was R26k all around. This was on 57k km on the clock. Apparently a common issue on the G01's.

The OEM discs were causing the shudder?

So I bit the bullet and went ahead with it:

Front discs from BMW: R5880
Front pads from Imcomex : R700

The guys at BMW East London gave me a nice 15% discount, so worked out to R2900 per disc
Did you go with the TRW pads from Imcomex?

Thanks for this - just received a quote from them.

Meyle discs @ R3778 for the set
TRW Pads @ R700 for the set

How does Meyle compare to OEM?
Yep, I have Meyle discs allround on my 520D and F15 rear all paired with TRW pads. Haven't had any issues. Generally, Meyle is a good quality brand. They make lots of parts including suspension and filters.

I see. Imcomex quoted around R1900 for Meyle discs plus delivery to EC would be +-R400.

So at R2900 per disc from BMW it wasn't too bad.

Still do not understand why they decided to use two-piece lightweight rotors for a 520d. I checked my 330i F30 and that doesn't even have two-piece rotors, nor does my 320d E90. I can only thing it might be due to the weight of the car.

In an ideal world that made sense the 2 piece rotor would have much cheaper replacement costs as you would only be replacing the friction surface and not the hat.

Update on this. Installed the new brakes myself today. Took it for an easy drive, brakes feel good, especially for new brakes that haven't been bedded in yet.

Knock knock..

I need to replace the front pads and discs on my E46.
Goldwagen has the Febi pads in stock but have to order in the Febi discs and want to charge an additional R255 for freight.

Are there any other brands I should consider or go with the Febi?

Get Meyle discs and TRW pads. Imcomex should have and are generally cheaper than Goldwagen. Zimmerman is good to

A friend who owns a spares shop can supply the following items.

Pads:
Brembo
Ate
Safeline

Discs:
Stone
Fremax
Mahle

Which options do you guys suggest?

I've had very good luck with Surebrake discs on the E36 surprisingly, others have too on different cars. And my E36 only sees hard driving.
