Perfect oil class for B58

I recently got out of service plan and called up BMW for a quote on the service kit. When I got the quote they came back with MAGNATEC A3 5W-30 for the oil but in most forums I have read that the best oil for a B58 is 0W20. Is this accurate or will I just be fine using 5W-30?

I'm quite sure BMW oil is Shell rebranded as BMW twin power 5w30.

They've moved away from Castrol many years ago.

For non M cars here in SA, 5w30 is the oil to use. However if it were my car out of plan, as I do with all my cars, is to use original filters with Liqui Molly Top Tec 5w30.
Much more expensive oil than even BMW oil, but I won't skimp on oil quality.
Since you are driving a premium car with a high performance motor, I recommend the same.

Thanks for that I think I will go that way

Use Shell. Its perfectly fine.
Half your service intervals. Id do that anyway regardless of oil i use.
If you dont want to skimp on oil, go with motul if you plan on tuning.

Thanks for that. I have seen quite a few references to Motul and Liqui Molly as the ones used.

Any LL01 oil should technically be fine, my personal recommendation would be Shell Helix Ultra 5W-30.

BMW themselves use 5W-30 for the B58, and when considering their partnership with Shell is probably identical to what you can buy off the shelf.
